About the Airtac AIRTAC SC125-160 Standard Cylinder SC160X35S

The SC160X35S is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder with a 160 mm bore and a short 35 mm stroke, factory-equipped with a built-in magnet for direct mounting of CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors. At 0.5 MPa it generates 10053 N extending force and 9425 N retracting force, placing it in a heavy-force class suitable for compact clamping or pressing operations.

This tie-rod cylinder uses a 40 mm diameter piston rod with an M36x2 thread and PT3/4 ports. The adjustable air cushion (29 mm length) decelerates the piston smoothly at end of stroke, protecting the end caps during high-cycle short-stroke work. The body length A is 239 mm, and the total extended length is approximately 274 mm.

Where the Airtac AIRTAC SC125-160 Standard Cylinder SC160X35S Is Used

compress

Heavy-Duty Clamping

The 10053 N force at 0.5 MPa makes this cylinder ideal for pneumatic clamping fixtures in welding or assembly jigs, where a short, powerful stroke securely holds large workpieces.

precision_manufacturing

Press-Fit Insertion

Use the SC160X35S for pressing bearings, bushings, or pins into housings. The built-in magnet allows end-of-stroke confirmation via solid-state sensors for quality control.

conveyor_belt

Material Stops & Gates

Deploy this cylinder as a robust stop gate on heavy-duty roller conveyors. The 35 mm stroke quickly raises and lowers a stop plate, and the magnetic piston enables position sensing for automated line control.

Is the Airtac AIRTAC SC125-160 Standard Cylinder SC160X35S the Right Cylinder?

For a 160 mm bore, the SC160 delivers 10053 N push at 0.5 MPa. If you need slightly lower force in a smaller envelope, step down to the SC125 (6136 N push at 0.5 MPa). If the application demands even higher thrust, the SC200 provides 15708 N at the same pressure. Always match replacement cylinders on five points: bore, stroke, PT port thread, basic mounting, and the built-in magnet (-S suffix).

This 35 mm stroke is well within the standard range, but if your load applies any side force, consider an external guide rail. Even a short-stroke cylinder with a 40 mm rod can suffer bearing wear under off-axis loads.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac AIRTAC SC125-160 Standard Cylinder SC160X35S FAQ

At the standard operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, the extending (push) force is 10053 N and the retracting (pull) force is 9425 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force reaches 18095 N.

Yes. The -S suffix in the model code indicates a built-in magnet on the piston. This allows you to clamp AirTAC CMSG (reed) or DMSG/EMSG (solid-state) sensors directly onto the barrel to detect piston position without any additional brackets.
