This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE80X20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP80X20SB extends its 20 mm rod with compressed air and retracts on the built-in spring, so one air line is all the plumbing it needs. At 0.5 MPa this 80 mm bore delivers 2316.2 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa. In practical terms, plan on roughly 1390 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 71 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for clamping heavy fixtures or ejecting dense parts. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa, and speed runs 50-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight press fixtures and guarded stations. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and because this model carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the tube. Note: the ASP family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ASE80X20, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE80X20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2316.2 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 3321.5 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 80 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 2316.2 N push at 0.5 MPa clamps steel weldments or machining fixtures in a 20 mm working window, and the spring releases the part the moment air drops.
Short-trunk ejection of bushings or bearings from a press die: about 71 kg of vertical lift capability at a 2:1 margin clears seated parts on one air line.
Spring-return push of a heavy slide gate or pallet-stop on a conveyor line, with CMSE / DMSE switches confirming the extended position via the fitted -S magnet.
Size against the neighbours: a 63 mm bore gives 1420.5 N at 0.5 MPa, while a 100 mm bore reaches 3640.7 N - pick the 80 mm when your load sits between roughly 850 and 2200 N of real work. Remember the spring drives the rod home on air loss, so this unit will not hold a mid-stroke position under load. Male rod thread (B code) and PT port thread are fixed on this version; FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts can be specified, and the -S magnet is already fitted for CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Order the ASE80X20 as the drop-in successor and verify the ISO 21287 mounting footprint first.
Replacement checklist
Push force is 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. The spring retracts the rod on air loss, so the cylinder returns to its home position rather than holding mid-stroke. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 50-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end that only decelerates the rod at the ends of travel. This SB version has a male rod thread and carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount on the tube. The ASP is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ASE80X20 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
