This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X5S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE80X5S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X5S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X5S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP80X5S uses shop air to extend its 20 mm rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits home whenever pressure drops. The 80 mm bore delivers 2316.2 N of push at 0.5 MPa (3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa), both figures already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped clamping stations and slide fixtures. In practice, plan on about 1390 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 118 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for a heavy gate, a press-fit anvil or a loaded pallet clamp. A fixed TPU bumper at each end softens the stops, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with S45C hard-chrome rod runs at 50-500 mm/s. Note: the ASP family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ASE80X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE80X5S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2316.2 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 3321.5 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 80 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 2316.2 N push at 0.5 MPa kicks finished parts off a small arbor press die in 5 mm, and the spring clears the ram the moment air is dumped.
On a CNC jig, the short body tucks under a guard where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit, holding a hinged lid closed with about 1390 N of usable force.
With the -S magnet fitted, a DMSE switch confirms the stop is extended on a packaging line indexing stop, while the spring retracts it between cycles.
Size by force first: at 0.5 MPa this 80 mm bore pushes 2316.2 N net of the spring, while a 63 mm bore gives 1420.5 N and a 100 mm bore gives 3640.7 N, so step up only if your load exceeds about 1390 N of real work. Keep the stroke short - 5 mm here is well inside the standard range - and remember the spring returns the rod on air loss rather than holding a mid-stroke position. Match the mounting to your fixture (FA/FB flange, LB foot, CA/CB clevis are available) and order CMSE or DMSE switches only because this -S version carries the magnet. For new projects, specify the ASE80X5 instead, as the ASP is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
This 80 mm single acting push cylinder delivers 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring, runs up to 1.0 MPa (28-145 psi operating, 1.5 MPa / 215 psi proof), takes filtered air to 40 um, and moves at 50-500 mm/s over its 5 mm stroke. Air extends the rod; the spring retracts it to the home position on air loss.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis options plus a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. Because this model carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches mount directly for end-of-stroke detection. The ASP is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ASE80X5, so verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
