This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ATE40X25SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ATE40X25SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB

The AirTAC Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB is a single acting, pull (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ATE40X25SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB

The ATP40X25SB is a single acting pull cylinder, DIN-standard compact type: a spring extends the 12 mm rod and compressed air retracts it, so the unit rests normally extended and fails to the extended position on air loss. At 0.5 MPa it delivers a 500.3 N pull net of the spring (729 N at 0.7 MPa), with working pressure 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) and a 0.2 MPa minimum to beat the spring. The hard-anodized aluminium body in the ISO 21287 short format saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signal, and the B code gives a male rod thread with a PT port thread.

Practical sizing: treat roughly 300 N (about 0.6 of the 500.3 N rating) as the realistic working pull at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting about 25 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper at both ends decelerates the rod; it never locks or holds a mid-stroke position, and on air loss the spring simply returns the rod home. Note that the ATP family is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ATE40X25 (same bore, stroke and force class), so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ATE40X25SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Single-acting pull: the spring extends the rod; air retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Spring-extend clamp on a CNC fixture

The spring keeps a jig clamp closed on aluminium housings while air retracts it for loading; the 500.3 N net pull at 0.5 MPa holds light workpieces safely with a 2:1 margin.

sensors

Position-flagged ejection on an assembly line

With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the 25 mm retract stroke of a parts-kicker on a conveyor transfer, so the PLC blocks the next cycle if the rod fails to return.

vertical_align_top

Fail-safe lift of a guard lid

On a packaging machine access cover, air loss lets the spring extend the rod and raise the lid automatically; the short ISO 21287 body fits inside the guard frame where a full-length profile cylinder would not.

Replacing the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB with the ATE40X25SB

Size by net pull: if 500.3 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your clamp or retract load, step up to the bore 50 version (775 N at 0.5 MPa); if the load is light, the bore 32 model (296 N at 0.5 MPa) costs less and takes less space. Remember the spring return means no mid-stroke holding - pick a double-acting ACP/ACE type if you need to stop anywhere except the extended home position. Mounting options include FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis, and the -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switch mounting. The ATP40X25SB is discontinued; order the ATE40X25 as the current ISO 21287 replacement and verify mounting dimensions against your fixture.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ATE40X25SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25SB FAQ

It is a single acting pull, spring-extend cylinder: pull is 500.3 N at 0.5 MPa and 729 N at 0.7 MPa, both net of the return spring. Bore 40 mm, stroke 25 mm, rod 12 mm with male thread, 1/8" port (PT), operating pressure 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the -S magnet allows CMSE / DMSE switches.

Order the ATE40X25, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in the same short-body format. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, since the ATP was built to a DIN-standard compact pattern, and check whether your switches need the -S magnet code.
