About the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X5SB
The ATP40X5SB is a single acting pull cylinder of DIN-standard compact build: a spring extends the 12 mm rod and compressed air retracts it, so the unit rests normally extended and fails to the extended position when air is lost. At 0.5 MPa the spring-netted pull is 500.3 N (729 N at 0.7 MPa), and 0.2 MPa is the minimum working pressure needed to beat the spring. The 40 mm bore takes a 1/8" port, and the B code gives a male rod thread on the S45C hard-chrome rod.
Because the short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, this 5 mm stroke unit slots into shallow clamping pockets where a full-length body will not reach. For real-world sizing, treat roughly 300 N (about 30 kgf) as the usable pull at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 25 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The optional -S magnet this model carries accepts CMSE / DMSE switches, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the stroke. Note: the ATP family is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ATE40X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
