AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC ATE series is a single-acting, spring-return pull compact cylinder with 12-100mm bores, designed for fail-extend applications.
inventory_251 models availableThe AirTAC ATE series is the single-acting, spring-return pull version of the ISO 21287 ACE compact cylinder. It uses air to retract (pull) the rod, while a built-in spring extends it back to its home position when air is released. This makes it ideal for fail-safe extend tasks like hold-downs or pin retraction. The series covers 10 bore sizes from 12 to 100 mm, with short strokes up to 10 mm for bore 12 and up to 25 mm for bores 16-100. Net pull force at 0.5 MPa spans from about 26 N (bore 12) to 3484 N (bore 100).
All ATE cylinders share a hard-anodized aluminum body, an S45C hard-chrome rod, a two-way seal, and a fixed TPU bumper that only decelerates the piston near stroke end - it does not lock or hold loads. Ports are M5x0.8 for bores 12-25, 1/8 inch for 32-63, and 1/4 inch for 80-100. Rod thread is female as standard, with a male option (add suffix -B). A magnetic piston (-S option) enables position sensing with AirTAC switches. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa, temperature -20 to +80 C, and air filtration 40 um. The ATE complies with ISO 21287 compact cylinder standard, not tie-rod or ISO 15552.

Use an ATE cylinder to pull a clamp arm down onto a workpiece in a CNC fixture. The spring extends the rod to release the part when air is removed, ensuring fail-safe unclamping.
Retract a locating pin in an automated assembly line. The ATE's pull action withdraws the pin, and the spring returns it to the extended position, keeping the pin engaged when air is off.
Operate a small stop gate on a packaging conveyor. The ATE pulls the gate down to allow product flow, and the spring raises it to stop products when air is lost, preventing jams.
Maintain tension on a film web in a packaging machine. The ATE pulls a dancer roller to apply tension, and the spring releases it when air is off, preventing film breakage.
Choose the ATE bore size based on the required pull force and available air pressure. For light hold-downs or small pin retraction, bores 12-25 mm (26-196 N at 0.5 MPa) are sufficient; for heavier clamping or larger mechanisms, select bores 32-100 mm (up to 3484 N). Remember that the spring reduces net force, so verify the actual force at your operating pressure from the datasheet. Also confirm the stroke length - ATE offers only short strokes (max 10 mm for bore 12, 25 mm for others).
When selecting, confirm these 5 points: (1) bore size, (2) stroke length, (3) port thread (M5, 1/8, 1/4), (4) rod thread type (female or male -B), and (5) whether you need the magnetic piston (-S) for sensors. If you need a pushing action, consider the ASE series (single-acting push). For double-acting applications where you need powered retraction and extension, use the ACE series. The ATE replaces the discontinued ATP (DIN standard) series.
Quick checklist
The ATE series provides net pull force (after spring) at 0.5 MPa from about 26 N for bore 12 mm up to 3484 N for bore 100 mm. The exact force depends on bore size and operating pressure (0.2-1.0 MPa). Always check the datasheet for your specific bore and pressure.
The ATE series offers a rod thread option: female (standard) or male (add suffix -B). You can also add a magnetic piston (suffix -S) for use with AirTAC sensors. All other design features are the same across the series.
The ATE is the single-acting pull version of the ACE compact cylinder and complies with ISO 21287. It is not a tie-rod or ISO 15552 cylinder. It replaces the discontinued ATP series. For a double-acting version, use the ACE series; for single-acting push, use the ASE series.
