AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC MACJ is a double-acting mini cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke and a variable air cushion, in 16 to 63 mm bores - for machines that need compact power with tuned end-of-stroke control.
inventory_2755 models availableThe MACJ is AirTAC's adjustable-stroke mini cylinder. It spans seven bores - 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63 mm - with push force at 0.5 MPa ranging from about 100 N on the 16 mm bore to about 1558 N on the 63 mm bore. Every model is double acting, and the extend stroke is trimmed by an external stop rather than fixed by the barrel, so one cylinder covers several position settings on the same machine.
The body is a high-precision stainless-steel barrel with aluminium-alloy front and back covers and a stainless-steel block rolled onto it, forming a reliably sealed round body. The carbon-steel piston rod carries a 20 um hard-chrome plating, and the piston uses a two-way seal that also stores grease, so lubrication is not required. Ports follow the bore: M5x0.8 at 16 mm, 1/8 inch at 20-40 mm and 1/4 inch at 50/63 mm. A magnet is built in as standard, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be fitted for end-of-stroke feedback.
The series carries no ISO or JIS designation - it is a standard round-body mini cylinder, not a tie-rod or profile design - so specify it by the AirTAC code (MACJ{bore}X{stroke}-{adjust} plus mount and thread). Neighbouring variants: MAJ gives an adjustable stroke with bumper pads instead of a cushion, MAC is the fixed-stroke cushioned version, and MACD adds a double rod with cushion.

On assembly fixtures where product heights vary, the external stop trims the extend stroke without changing cylinders, while the variable cushion catches the load at each end of the 16-40 mm bore range.
A 50 or 63 mm MACJ delivers roughly 981-1558 N push at 0.5 MPa to kick cartons off a conveyor lane, and the built-in magnet feeds an end-of-stroke signal to the line PLC before the next box is released.
Mid-size 25-32 mm bores swing or push a gate arm across a belt; the two-way piston seal and grease-retaining design keep the cycle running without a lubricator in the air line.
A 20 mm MACJ clamps sheets or labels against a platen; the variable air cushion prevents bounce at the clamp position, and a CMSG or DMSG switch confirms the sheet is held before the print cycle starts.
Start from the load. Use the 0.5 MPa push figures (about 100 N at 16 mm up to about 1558 N at 63 mm) as your reference at working pressure, and plan for roughly 60% of the rating as real work so the cylinder keeps margin. Then set the stroke and, if the stop position may change between products or batches, size the adjustable window accordingly. The cushion is variable at both ends, so increase it where the load arrives fast at stroke end.
Confirm five points before ordering: bore, stroke or adjustable window, port thread (PT, G or NPT to match your shop), mounting style for the load, and the -S magnet code if you need sensing - it is standard on this series, so just add the CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switch. If you want a fixed stroke instead, step to the MAC; for a double rod, choose MACD; for an adjustable stroke without cushioning, MAJ with bumper pads. Drive the cylinder with an AirTAC 4V or 3V solenoid valve. The air cushion decelerates the piston only; it does not hold position on air loss, so add a mechanical lock or pilot check valve if the load must be held.
Quick checklist
Across the 16 to 63 mm bore range, datasheet push force at 0.5 MPa runs from about 100 N (16 mm bore, 6 mm rod) through 402 N (32 mm) to about 1558 N (63 mm bore, 16 mm rod); pull force is slightly lower, about 86 N to 1457 N. At the full 1.0 MPa the largest bore reaches roughly 318 kgf. Size the bore at your working pressure and keep about a 40% margin.
MACJ is the only one that combines an adjustable extend stroke (external stop) with a variable air cushion at both ends. MAC is the fixed-stroke cushioned cylinder for a set position. MAJ is adjustable but uses bumper pads instead of a cushion, suiting slower, lighter stops. MACD adds a second rod for anti-rotation with a cushion. All share the same stainless round-body construction and built-in magnet.
A magnet is built into the MACJ as standard, so the CMSG (reed) or DMSG / EMSG (solid-state) switches clamp straight onto the barrel for end-of-stroke feedback - just include the S in your model code. Drive it with an AirTAC 4V or 3V solenoid valve sized to the port: M5x0.8 at 16 mm bore, 1/8 inch at 20-40 mm, 1/4 inch at 50 and 63 mm.
Yes - AirtacDistr sells genuine AirTAC parts as an authorized export seller. Order by the code MACJ{bore}X{stroke}-{adjust} plus mount and thread (PT blank, G or NPT), for example MACJ20X100S. The series has no ISO 6432 or JIS designation, so match by AirTAC code, mounting and thread rather than by a standard. Standard models ship from stock; longer adjustable strokes - confirm the lead time and exact dimensions from the datasheet with your RFQ.
