AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC MGC series is a JIS-standard double-acting mini cylinder with variable air cushions, spanning 20-63mm bores for high-speed automation.
inventory_2139 models availableThe AirTAC MGC series is a JIS-standard round-body mini air cylinder available in six bores from 20mm to 63mm. It provides a push force span of roughly 157N to 1558N at 0.5 MPa. Unlike the bumper-style MG, the MGC features a variable air cushion at both stroke ends. You turn the cushion needle to dial in end-of-stroke deceleration, allowing the MGC to handle higher piston speeds and heavier moving loads without hammering the covers.
Construction uses a SUS304 stainless barrel and a carbon-steel rod with 20um hard chrome. The covers are riveted and rolled with a stainless block, and the piston uses a two-way lubricant-storing seal. It is not a tie-rod or extruded-profile cylinder. Standard strokes reach 500mm, with 800mm available made to order. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa and speed ranges from 30-800 mm/s.
The MGC and the double-rod MGCD are the only MG-family cylinders that reach 50mm and 63mm bores. To add position sensing, order the S option (e.g. MGC50X100S) for compatibility with CMSG, DMSG and EMSG sensors. A model without S cannot take a sensor.

The variable air cushion absorbs the impact of fast-moving diverters at stroke end, handling higher cycle speeds than bumper cylinders without cover damage.
Provides smooth deceleration for heavier moving masses in packaging lines, using the 50mm and 63mm bores exclusive to the cushioned MGC line.
The 20um hard chrome rod and SUS304 barrel survive repeated short-stroke ejection cycles in dry or lightly lubricated environments.
Size the bore to the force required at your working pressure using the 0.5 MPa figures as a baseline, keeping a margin and planning about 60% for real work. Then select the stroke. Choose the MGC over the plain MG when you have higher cycle speeds or a heavier moving mass that needs the variable cushion to stop smoothly. Add the S option for sensing, pick FA flange or LB foot mounting, add an I or Y rod knuckle, and match the thread (PT, G or NPT).
If you need equal force both ways or anti-rotation with a cushion, step up to the double-rod MGCD. For lighter duties without a cushion, the fixed-bumper MG covers 20-40mm bores. Note that the air cushion only decelerates the piston; it does not hold or lock the load. If you need load holding on air loss, you must use an external rod lock or pilot check valve.
Quick checklist
The MGC series spans six bores from 20mm to 63mm. At 0.5 MPa, push force ranges from roughly 157N on the 20mm bore (port M5x0.8) up to 1558N on the 63mm bore (port 1/4 inch). Pull force is slightly lower due to the rod-side area.
The MGC uses a variable air cushion at both stroke ends, letting you adjust deceleration for higher speeds or heavier loads. The plain MG uses a fixed bumper pad and stops at 40mm bore. The MGC and MGCD are the only MG-family cylinders available in 50mm and 63mm bores.
No. The variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; it is not a brake or lock. The double-acting MGC cannot hold position on air loss. You must use an external mechanical rod lock or pilot check valve for held loads.
You must order the model with the S suffix (for example, MGC50X100S). The S indicates a built-in magnet for use with AirTAC CMSG, DMSG and EMSG sensors. A standard model without S cannot accept a sensor.
