AirTAC Pneumatics
AirTAC PTB is a single acting pen cylinder that retracts on air and extends by spring, in bores 6-16 mm with strokes 5-60 mm, for fail-extended positions where the rod must stay out when air is lost.
inventory_2110 models availablePTB is AirTAC's single acting pen cylinder built to the JIS standard, with a stainless steel piston rod and barrel. It works the opposite way round to the more common PSB: air pressure pulls the rod IN, and the internal spring pushes it back OUT. With no air applied the rod sits extended, so PTB suits fail-extended functions such as spring-out stops, pins and parts held forward when air is lost. Bores run 6, 10, 12 and 16 mm, with strokes of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 mm - 60 mm is the ceiling for this series.
Speed range is 50-800 mm/s on every bore, temperature is -20 to +70 C, and the medium must be air filtered to 40 um or finer. Cushioning is none or an anti-collision pad depending on bore; there is no adjustable air cushioning. Ports are M5x0.8 or tube-fitting type depending on bore. The small bore gives fast response for relatively high-frequency duty, the rod guide is accurate, and the guide bearing needs no added lubricating oil. Front and rear covers cannot be dismantled.
The ordering code PTB{bore}X{stroke}[S]{rear cover}{mounting} covers the whole line-up. The magnet is optional - add S only if you will fit a CMSG, DMSG or EMSG sensor. Rear cover codes change where the air enters: R is an axial inlet, U is a radial inlet, and CB is a double clevis/lug type. Mounting accessories are FA front flange, LB axial bracket and CJ foot. Pressure figures for this single acting series are differentiated by bore - confirm the value for your code from the datasheet.

The rod sits out with no air, blocking parts on the line; a short air pulse retracts the stop to release one part. Bore 10 or 12 with an R axial inlet keeps the tube run along the conveyor frame.
A pin or latch that must stay engaged whenever air is lost: the spring holds it out, and pressurising the port retracts it to release. Stainless rod and barrel cope with generally corrosive workshop air.
Small bores respond fast, and the 50-800 mm/s speed range with no added lubrication suits compact, high-cycle gating where the air stroke pulls the gate clear. Add S and a CMSG or DMSG sensor to confirm position.
Bore 6 with 5-15 mm strokes fits tight instrument envelopes, and the M5x0.8 or tube-fitting port connects to small-bore tubing. Mount front and rear on bores 10 and above, front cover only on bore 6.
Confirm the direction first: PTB retracts on air and extends on spring, so it is the choice when the de-energised state must be rod-out. If you need air-extend with a spring pulling the rod back in, that is the PSB series instead. Size the bore for the force you need with margin when the load varies, and take the stroke you need up to 60 mm. Bore 6 suits the tightest spaces but can only be mounted from the front cover; bores 10, 12 and 16 can be mounted at front or rear. Choose R (axial inlet) or U (radial inlet) to match your tube run, or CB if you need a clevis.
Before ordering, confirm five points: bore, stroke, port type, rear cover and mounting accessory, and whether the magnet is needed. If there is no room for a bracket or flange, PTBR is the same air-retract function with the front cover drilled for direct mounting. For a double-acting cylinder in the same pen format, step to the PB series; for double rod designs, PB offers PBD and PBJ variants. The full pen family is PB, PSB, PBD, PBJ, PBR, PSBR and PTBR.
Quick checklist
Bores are 6, 10, 12 and 16 mm - there is no 4 mm PTB. Every bore takes the same stroke list: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 mm, so the maximum stroke is 60 mm. Speed is 50-800 mm/s on all bores, temperature range is -20 to +70 C, and the air must be filtered to 40 um or finer.
PTB is single acting, air-retract: air pulls the rod in and the spring pushes it out, so the rod sits extended with no air. PSB is the opposite single acting type - air-extend, spring-in. PB is double acting in the same pen format. If you want PTB's function but with no room for a bracket, PTBR is the same air-retract cylinder with the front cover drilled for direct mounting.
Pressure and output figures for PTB are differentiated by bore and action type, so confirm them for your exact part number from the datasheet. Note that on a single acting cylinder the internal spring opposes the air, so a single acting type needs more pressure than an equivalent double acting one. Also, never hang a working load on the extend direction - the spring drives that stroke, not air. The air-powered work stroke is the retract.
Yes - AirtacDistr is an authorized export seller of genuine AirTAC parts, and standard PTB codes such as PTB10X10R or PTB10X15SCB are listed and orderable. Lead time is confirmed on request for your specific bore, stroke, rear cover and mounting combination. If you add the S magnet option, pair it with a CMSG, DMSG or EMSG reed sensor.
