The AirTAC SGD series is a large-bore double-rod cylinder built to ISO 15552 (formerly ISO 6431). Two piston rods sit on one shared plate and push in both directions - double acting - so the output force for the bore is doubled and the plate resists bending and twisting. Bores are 125, 160, 200 and 250 mm, with standard strokes from 25 to 1000 mm, a maximum of 1500 mm and an allowable stroke of 2000 mm. Pressure range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (1.5-10.0 bar), speed range 30-500 mm/s, and the standard temperature range is -20 to +70 C.
The barrel is steel tube, joined to the front and rear covers by tie rods. AirTAC states strong resistance to knocks and impact for this steel-tube SG construction, which is the reason to pick SGD over an aluminium barrel when the cylinder lives where it can be hit. Cushioning is adjustable air cushioning at both ends, with a cushion stroke of 40, 50 or 60 mm depending on bore, and the adjustment runs stable and smooth. Air supply is filtered to 40 um or finer.
Ordering code: SGD{bore}X{stroke}[seal]{mounting}. The seal options on SGD are blank (manufacturer default) or H (fluororubber); choosing H also raises the temperature range from -20 to +70 C up to 0 to +150 C. Mountings are basic type, FA front flange, FTC front-cover trunnion, LB foot or TC centre trunnion. Port threads are PT1/2, PT3/4 or PT1, assigned by bore, with PT and G both available. The aluminium-tube counterpart is SGCD, which shares the same ISO interface and adds the magnet and sensor option plus an NBR seal choice.

Typical Applications
Heavy clamping and press fixtures
A 250 mm bore SGD holds a wide clamp plate square on a forming or press fixture. Two rods double the output force for the bore, and adjustable cushioning at both ends settles the load smoothly at each end of travel.
Pallet lift and guide stations
Long strokes to 1000 mm and a double-rod plate that resists twisting suit lift-and-guide mechanisms on heavy pallet and tote handling, where a single-rod cylinder would let the plate tilt under offset loads.
Fabrication-shop tooling
Weld cells, grinding stations and machining fixtures take knocks from parts and operators. The steel-tube barrel AirTAC rates for strong resistance to knocks and impact is the reason to accept the SGD construction here.
Crate pressing and stacking heads
A twin-rod SGD drives a wide pressing head down onto crates or stacked cartons, with the H fluororubber seal option carrying duty in a hot shrink-wrap or sealing zone up to 150 C.
How to Choose the Right Model
Start with the barrel, because it is not reversible: SGD for a tough steel tube with no position sensing, or SGCD if the machine needs magnetic sensors (CMSG / DMSG / EMSG on SGCD). Then match five points: bore (125-250 mm, remembering a double rod doubles the force for the bore), stroke from the standard list up to 1000 mm (1500 mm maximum), seal (blank for default, or H for fluororubber and the 0-150 C range), mounting (basic, FA, FTC, LB or TC), and thread (PT or G to suit your fittings). Confirm the exact port size and output figures for your bore and stroke from the datasheet before ordering.
Step outside SGD when the job changes. If the load varies, size with force to spare. If the duty is a small twin-rod slide, the TN (enterprise standard) or TR (JIS) pen-and-mini twin-rod series cover the small bores SGD does not. For adjustable stroke in the same large-bore line, look at SGJ (steel) or SGCJ (aluminium). For a single-rod cylinder on the same ISO 15552 interface, the SG (steel tube) and SGC (aluminium tube) series also offer FB, CA, CB, CR, TCM1 and TCM2 mountings that SGD does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bores are 125, 160, 200 and 250 mm. Standard strokes run from 25 to 1000 mm in 22 steps (25, 50, 75, 80, 100, 125, 150, 160, 175, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 mm), with a maximum stroke of 1500 mm and an allowable stroke of 2000 mm. Pressure range is 0.15-1.0 MPa and speed range is 30-500 mm/s - large bores move more slowly than small-bore cylinders, which can reach 800 mm/s.
Same ISO 15552 interface, different barrel. SGD is the steel-tube version, rated for strong resistance to knocks and impact, with seal options of blank (default) or H fluororubber only. SGCD is the aluminium-tube version and adds the S magnet option, compatibility with CMSG / DMSG / EMSG magnetic sensors, and an N (NBR) seal option. If you need any of those three, order SGCD; if the cylinder will get hit, SGD is the tougher barrel.
No. The ordering code for SGD accepts only a blank magnet position - there is no magnet ring on this steel-tube barrel, and magnetic sensors need that ring to switch. An SGD bought for a machine that later needs position feedback has to be replaced with an SGCD of the same bore and stroke, so decide this before ordering.
SGD offers basic type, FA front flange, FTC front-cover trunnion, LB foot and TC centre trunnion only. Clevis, rear flange and the TCM1 / TCM2 trunnion mountings belong to the single-rod SG / SGC series.
