This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACE20X5 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACE20X5 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACP Compact Cylinder ACP20X5 is a double acting DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACE20X5 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACP20X5 is a double acting DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 20 mm bore and a very short 5 mm stroke, giving 157.1 N of push force and 117.8 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa. Its hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped fixtures where a full-length body simply will not fit. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
At 0.5 MPa the push force of 157.1 N translates to roughly 16 kgf, so plan on about 9 kg of vertical lift with a sensible 2:1 margin rather than the full rating. A fixed TPU bumper at each end absorbs end-of-travel shock but never locks or holds the rod - if the load must stay put when air is lost, add a rod lock or pilot check valve. Note there is no magnet fitted on this code; order the optional -S version if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. This model is discontinued, and the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACE20X5 in the same bore, stroke and force class.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACE20X5 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 157 N | 118 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 220 N | 165 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 32 kgf | |
The ACE20X5 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACP | DIN compact cylinder (double-acting, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5 mm stroke and 157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa are ideal for a short clamp that presses a circuit board onto pogo-pin test pins inside a tight jig.
A 20 mm bore with M6x1.0 female rod thread ejects sample vials or slides from a holder in compact analytical and medical lab equipment.
With about 9 kg of practical vertical lift at 0.5 MPa, this short-body cylinder kicks small cartons or blisters off a conveyor at a packaging station.
For a 5 mm nudge-and-clamp stroke, the 20 mm bore is the middle choice: the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa while the 25 mm bore reaches 245.4 N, so step down or up depending on your real load. If the piston must hold against gravity with the valve centred, specify a rod lock or pilot check valve because a plain cylinder drifts. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mountings plus the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches let you match existing fixtures. Since ACP20X5 is discontinued, order the ACE20X5 replacement and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes with 157.1 N and pulls with 117.8 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 219.9 N and pull to 164.9 N. The theoretical maximum is 32 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8.
The hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287-class short design, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis options. Sensing requires the optional -S magnet code, which enables CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches; without -S there is no magnet. This model is discontinued - the drop-in successor is the ACE20X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
