This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACED40X70S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACED40X70S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPD Double Rod Compact Cylinder ACPD40X70S is a double acting, double rod DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 70mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACED40X70S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting with a rod leaving both covers, the ACPD40X70S pushes and pulls with identical force because each stroke works on the rod-side area: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa in either direction. The 40 mm bore carries a 12 mm through-rod with a female M8x1.25 end thread, 1/8" ports, and a fixed TPU bumper at each cover. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke sensing.
Practical sizing: treat about 343 N (roughly 35 kg) as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa instead of the full 571.8 N rating, and for vertical lifts plan on about 29 kg with a 2:1 margin. The through-rod resists rotation and side load, and the rear rod can carry a sensor flag. Note that this cylinder drifts if air is lost - it is not a lock - so add a rod lock or pilot check for held loads. The ACPD family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACED40X70 in the same bore, stroke and force class, and buyers should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACED40X70S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Force (both ways) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 572 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 800 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 117 kgf |
Double-rod: a rod exits both covers, so output force is equal in both directions (rod-side area used).
| ACPD | DIN compact cylinder (double-rod, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The equal 571.8 N push and pull at 0.5 MPa lets one cylinder both clamp a machined housing and retract the nest, with the 70 mm stroke clearing a chip shield.
A rod on each cover means the pusher blade is guided at both ends; the through-rod resists side load as it diverts cartons on a packaging line.
The fitted -S magnet drives CMSE or DMSE switches at both ends, confirming the 70 mm stroke is complete before a screwdriver or press cycle starts.
At 571.8 N per side at 0.5 MPa, the 40 mm bore sits between the 32 mm (345.6 N) and 50 mm (881.2 N) double-rod sizes - step down for lighter pick-and-place heads, step up for heavier press-fit or clamping work. The 70 mm stroke is well inside the 200 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a catalogue item, not a made-to-order build. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the ISO 21287 face. If you need position sensing, this S-coded unit already includes the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; otherwise order the non-S version. For new designs, specify the ACED40X70 instead - the ACPD is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
Yes - it is a double-rod cylinder, so output is identical either way: 571.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 800.5 N at 0.7 MPa on both strokes (rod-side area). At 1.0 MPa the peak is 116.6 kgf. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, -20 to +70 C.
It is a short ISO 21287-class compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each cover and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. The ACPD series is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACED40X70 - same bore, stroke and force class - so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
