About the Airtac MTG Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MTG40X100
The AirTAC MTG40X100 is a single acting, spring-return PULL cylinder in the JIS round-body MTG mini series. With a 40 mm bore and 100 mm stroke, it delivers a net pull of about 339.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 550.1 N at 0.7 MPa, already measured after the internal spring. The spring holds the rod EXTENDED at rest, and compressed air on one 1/8" port RETRACTS (pulls) the rod, so a single air line covers the whole work stroke. Working pressure runs from 0.2 MPa (28 psi) up to 1.0 MPa (145 psi), with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure and a 50-800 mm/s speed range. If air is lost, the spring simply pushes the rod back out to its extended rest position, so this cylinder is not a load-holding device and the fixed anti-impact bumper pad is not a brake.
Construction suits damp and washdown-adjacent lines: a SUS304 stainless barrel with a riveted/rolled cover design and a hard-chrome (20 um) carbon-steel rod threaded M14x1.5. A two-way lubricant-storing piston seal reduces maintenance intervals. For position feedback, order the -S option to fit CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches; the base MTG40X100 carries no magnet. Choose the MTG40X100 when your one-way pull needs the largest MTG force class: about 339.1 N at 0.5 MPa on a 40 mm bore with a 100 mm stroke. If your load needs less, the MTG20, MTG25 or MTG32 pull cylinders are smaller and cheaper; if you need two-way powered travel or a stroke beyond the 150 mm spring-return limit of this series, step up to the double-acting MG. Remember the spring-extends / air-retracts behaviour: the rod comes out on power loss, and the minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28 psi), so size your supply accordingly. Specify the -S option if you need CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensing, and pick LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis or SDB pivot mounting (with I or Y knuckles) to match your fixture. Ports are 1/8" on every MTG bore, and threads are PT as standard with G or NPT available.
