AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC MAJ is a round-body double-acting mini cylinder, 16-40 mm bore, with an external stop screw that trims the extend stroke on site - a compact actuator for jigs, clamps and small automation.
inventory_2816 models availableThe MAJ is AirTAC's standard round-body mini cylinder with one extra trick: the extend stroke is adjustable. An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site within the ordered window, so one cylinder can be tuned to the exact reach your fixture needs without changing the ordered stroke length. It is a double-acting cylinder with a fixed bumper pad at each end; the stop trims the stroke but never lengthens it past the ordered value.
The barrel is high-precision stainless steel with an aluminium-alloy front and back cover riveted and rolled onto it, forming a sealed rolling-packed body. The carbon-steel piston rod carries a 20 um hard-chrome plating, and the piston's two-way seal also stores grease, so lubrication is not required. Bores run from 16 mm to 40 mm (16, 20, 25, 32, 40 mm) on 6-16 mm rods, with push force from roughly 100 N up to 628 N at 0.5 MPa (up to about 128 kgf at 1.0 MPa on the 40 mm bore). Ports are M5x0.8 on the 16 mm bore and 1/8 inch on 20-40 mm. Every MAJ ships with a magnet built in as standard, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be added for end-of-stroke sensing. This is a round-body series - it is not a tie-rod or extruded-profile cylinder and the catalogue assigns it no ISO 6432 or JIS designation, so specify it by AirTAC code.
Ordering code MAJ{bore}X{stroke}-{adjust}[S][mount][thread]: -adjust is the adjustable extend-stroke window, S is the standard built-in magnet, and the port thread can be PT, G or NPT. If you do not need on-site stroke adjustment, the MA series is the same bumper cushion with a fixed stroke; the MACJ adds an adjustable cushion to the adjustable stroke, and the MAD gives you a double rod.

A 25 mm bore MAJ delivers about 245 N push at 0.5 MPa for part clamps, while the external stop screw lets a machinist trim the extend stroke so the clamp lands exactly on the workpiece.
The rolling-packed stainless body and grease-storing piston seal run at 30-800 mm/s with no lubrication, keeping 16-20 mm MAJ cylinders maintenance-light on carton and tray eject stations.
A 32 mm bore MAJ gives about 402 N at 0.5 MPa for pop-up diverters, and the built-in magnet feeds a CMSG or DMSG switch to the PLC for blade-up or blade-down confirmation.
Low 0.15 MPa start pressure and adjustable extend stroke let a bench rig present a sensor or probe to repeatable depths without swapping cylinders between products.
Start with the force: take your working pressure, size the bore against the datasheet thrust figures (about 100 N push at 0.5 MPa on a 16 mm bore up to 628 N on a 40 mm bore) and plan on roughly 60% of the rating as real work to keep a margin. Then pick the stroke and the -adjust window, which sets how far the external stop screw can shorten the extend stroke. Choose MAJ when you want to dial in the extend position on the machine; pick MA for a fixed stroke at the same build, MACJ when the load also needs an adjustable cushion, or MAD for a double rod. Note that the stop screw is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - the piston still moves if air is lost, so add a mechanical lock or pilot check valve where holding is required.
Before ordering, confirm the 5-point match: (1) bore for the load, (2) stroke plus the -adjust window, (3) port thread - M5x0.8 on 16 mm, 1/8 inch on 20-40 mm, in PT, G or NPT to suit your shop, (4) mounting style suited to the load, (5) the S magnet code if you want CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switch feedback. For side loads, heavier forces or a standard profile interface, step out to AirTAC's larger SC series; drive the MAJ with an AirTAC 4V or 3V solenoid valve. Confirm exact dimensions from the datasheet before machining.
Quick checklist
At 0.5 MPa the push force spans about 100 N on the 16 mm bore, 157 N on 20 mm, 245 N on 25 mm, 402 N on 32 mm and 628 N on 40 mm (pull force is slightly lower). At the 1.0 MPa maximum the 40 mm bore reaches roughly 128 kgf. Size the bore for roughly 60% of the rating as real work at your actual pressure.
The MAJ has an external mechanical stop screw that shortens the extend stroke within the -adjust window you ordered - you never lengthen the stroke past the ordered value. It is an end stop for the extend direction only: it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and the cylinder still drifts if air pressure is lost, so use a mechanical lock or pilot check valve where load holding matters.
MAJ is double acting with an adjustable extend stroke and fixed bumper pads. MA is the same bumper construction with a fixed stroke. MACJ combines the adjustable stroke with an adjustable cushion. MAD is the double-rod version. All share the stainless round-body design and 0.15-1.0 MPa pressure range.
Yes - a magnet is built in as standard on every MAJ, so add the S code in the ordering code MAJ{bore}X{stroke}-{adjust}[S][mount][thread] and pair it with a CMSG reed or DMSG/EMSG solid-state switch. Ports are M5x0.8 on the 16 mm bore and 1/8 inch on 20-40 mm, with PT, G or NPT thread options.
