About the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG40X50
The AirTAC MSG40X50 is a single acting, push type JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and 50 mm stroke: compressed air extends the rod and an internal return spring retracts it when air is released. Because air is only supplied on the work stroke, one air line and one valve port are enough, which saves air and simplifies the circuit for one-way clamping, ejecting, lifting or pressing. The 40 mm bore is the largest in the MSG family and delivers about 439.6 N push at 0.5 MPa and 690.8 N at 0.7 MPa, figures already net of the return spring. Operating pressure is 0.2 to 1.0 MPa (28 to 145 psi), so the spring sets a 0.2 MPa floor for reliable actuation.
Construction is a riveted round body in SUS304 stainless with a hard-chrome plated carbon-steel rod (20 um chrome), so the cylinder resists damp and washdown environments, and the JIS standard footprint drops into standard JIS mini brackets and I or Y rod knuckles. A fixed anti-impact bumper pad softens the stroke ends. With a realistic working load of roughly 0.6 of the push force, plan on about 260 N, or for a vertical lift halve the 44.8 kgf push rating to about 22 kg. The spring-return travel caps the standard stroke at 150 mm for this bore; for a longer or two-directional stroke, step up to the double-acting MG.

Spring-return clamping

Is the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG40X50 the Right Cylinder?
Choose the MSG40X50 when your one-way work stroke needs the most push the MSG family offers: 439.6 N at 0.5 MPa (690.8 N at 0.7 MPa) from a 40 mm bore with a 50 mm stroke. Size down to the MSG32 for lighter loads or up is not possible within MSG, as 40 mm is the largest bore. Remember the return spring sets a 0.2 MPa minimum working pressure and retracts the rod to its rest position whenever air is released, so the cylinder does not hold a load on air loss. The spring also limits the standard stroke to 150 mm maximum; for longer travel or powered return in both directions, select the double-acting MG instead. Mounting options are LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis and SDB pivot, plus I and Y rod knuckles, and the port is 1/8" on every MSG bore. This model has no magnet, so position sensing with CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches requires ordering the -S magnet option.
