Every valve in this family works the same way electrically: a coil is energised and the valve shifts. What separates the eight series carried here is what the valve does. Five-port valves (4V, 5V, 6V and the NAMUR 4M) route air to a double-acting cylinder - pressure to one side, exhaust from the other. The three-port 3V either feeds its outlet or vents it, which suits single-acting cylinders, air blow, clamping, switching a vacuum generator and piloting larger valves; it cannot drive a double-acting cylinder. The two-port 2L, 2KL and 2W simply open and close a line and do not drive cylinders.
Within the 5-port group the differences are practical. 4V is the general-purpose line in four body classes (4V100, 4V200, 4V300, 4V400) covering M5 to 1/2 inch ports, with single-solenoid spring return, double-solenoid hold-last-position and 5/3 centre versions, sold individually and manifold-mountable. 5V keeps the same M5 to 1/2 inch span across 5V1 to 5V4 and stocks the full function set - single, double and all three 5/3 centres (closed, exhaust, pressure) - in every body class, so needing a centre position never forces you to a bigger valve. 6V adds the 6V-F manifold base in 1 to 20 stations, so a whole bank shares one air feed and one wiring loom. 4M bolts directly onto the actuator instead of a manifold, leaving no interconnecting tube at all: three body sizes (4M1, 4M2, 4M3) at Cv 0.6, 1.0 and 1.65, internally piloted and IP65.
On the 3-port side, 3V includes direct-acting bodies (3V1, 3V2, 3V2M, 3V3) plus 3V-F manifold bases. The 2-port ladder runs eight sizes from 030 to 500 with ports up to 2 inch: 2L with a 2LH variant, 2KL with a 2KLH variant, and 2W with the widest spread - standard 2W, high-pressure 2WH and 2WL, extra-large-flow 2WT and 2WX. Coils follow AirTAC's standard voltage set: AC220V (code A), AC110V (C), AC24V (E), DC24V (B) and DC12V (F), with 6V stocked in four of the five - no AC24V - so confirm voltage per series.

Typical Applications
Multi-station packaging machine
Double-acting cylinders and grippers on a cartoning line are run from one 6V bank: the 6V-F manifold base takes 1 to 20 stations on a single air feed and one wiring loom, with single or double solenoid valves per station.
Quarter-turn ball valve automation
A 4M NAMUR valve bolts directly onto the rack-and-pinion actuator of a plant ball valve - no interconnecting tube, internally piloted, IP65, in three body sizes at Cv 0.6, 1.0 and 1.65.
Spring-return clamping on a fixture
A 3V three-port valve feeds or vents a single-acting clamp cylinder on a machining fixture: energise to clamp, de-energise and the spring returns the piston. It cannot drive a double-acting cylinder.
Isolating a machine's air drop
A 2L, 2KL or 2W two-port valve sits in the supply line to a machine or sub-circuit, opening and closing it electrically across eight sizes from 030 to 500 with ports up to 2 inch.
How to Choose the Right Model
Work through five points in order. First, function: a 5/2 or 5/3 valve for a double-acting cylinder, a 3/2 for single-acting or vent duty, a 2/2 for on-off. Second, location: on the actuator itself choose 4M; a bank in the panel calls for 6V on a 6V-F base (or 3V2M / a 3V-F base on the 3-port side); individually piped near the cylinder, 4V or 5V. Third, flow: body class rises with flow across every 5-port line, and an under-sized valve starves the cylinder and slows the stroke. Fourth, power loss: a single solenoid springs back to one side, a double solenoid holds the last position, and a 5/3 centre stops the air at mid-stroke - the cylinder still drifts under load, so a mechanical lock or pilot check valve is required for true holding. Fifth, the practical codes: port thread, coil voltage and electrical entry; confirm them from the datasheet or send us the part number and we check it.

Decide what must happen on power loss. Single solenoid: the valve springs back to one side, so the cylinder returns to a known state. Double solenoid: the valve holds its last position. A 5/3 centre (closed, exhaust or pressure - all stocked in every 5V body class) stops the airflow at mid-stroke, but a pneumatic cylinder still drifts under load, so no centre position acts as a lock; use a mechanical lock or a pilot check valve where holding matters.
