About the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG20X100
The MSG20X100 is a single acting, PUSH type JIS round-body mini cylinder: compressed air extends the 8 mm rod through a 100 mm stroke, and an internal return spring retracts it the moment air is released. With a 20 mm bore the net output, already after the spring, is about 109.9 N push at 0.5 MPa and 172.7 N at 0.7 MPa. Because air is only supplied on the work stroke, the whole circuit runs on one air line and one valve port, which saves air and keeps wiring simple for one-way clamping, ejecting and pressing jobs.
The barrel is SUS304 stainless with a hard-chrome plated carbon-steel rod, so the cylinder stands up to damp and washdown environments, and the JIS standard footprint drops straight into standard JIS mini brackets and I or Y rod knuckles. A fixed anti-impact bumper pad softens the stroke end but is not a lock or brake. For a realistic vertical lift, size the load to roughly 0.6 of the push force, about 65 N, which is around 6.7 kg at 0.5 MPa. Note the spring-return travel caps the standard stroke at 150 mm for this bore; for a longer or two-directional stroke, step up to the double-acting MG.

Spring-return clamp

Choose the MSG20X100 when your one-way work stroke is 100 mm and the load stays well under the net push of 109.9 N at 0.5 MPa (172.7 N at 0.7 MPa); a practical rule is to keep the working load near 0.6 of the push force, about 6.7 kg for vertical lifting. This is the smallest bore in the MSG family, so if you need more force move up to the 25, 32 or 40 mm bores. The return spring sets a minimum working pressure of 0.2 MPa (28 psi), and on air loss the spring simply returns the rod to its retracted rest position, it does not hold a load. Standard strokes for this bore stop at 150 mm; for longer or two-way strokes use the double-acting MG. Mount with LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis or SDB pivot brackets, add I or Y knuckles as needed, and order the -S option if you want CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switch sensing; this no-S model carries no magnet and accepts no sensor.
