About the AirTAC MSG20

The AirTAC MSG20 is a single-acting, spring-return stainless-steel mini cylinder (push type) with a 20 mm bore and an 8 mm piston rod. Compressed air extends the rod and a built-in spring retracts it when the air is released, so the rod rests retracted; only one port takes air. Catalog output with the spring force already deducted is 109.9 N push at 0.5 MPa and 172.7 N at 0.7 MPa. The spring stroke has no air behind it, so it must not carry a load.

All MSG20 versions share 1/8" air ports, an M8×1.25 rod thread and rubber bumpers at both ends. The cylinder runs on filtered air between 0.2 and 1.0 MPa (proof 1.5 MPa), from -20 to +70 °C, at 50 to 800 mm/s. This page lists 12 stock order codes with strokes from 25 to 150 mm; the catalog maximum stroke is 150 mm.

Where the MSG20 Is Used

Small pushers and stoppers

About 109.9 N at 0.5 MPa suits light pushers, stoppers, gates and ejectors.

Packaging and assembly

Compact strokes for feeders, diverters and assembly stations.

Sensed positioning

Magnet versions report stroke ends to the PLC through cylinder sensors.

Choosing the Right MSG20 Configuration

Start with the stroke. Pick the exact travel your machine needs; a longer stroke adds length, weight and air consumption without adding force. If your length is not listed, request a quote and we will confirm whether it can be built.

Every code on this page is the basic version without a mounting code: the cylinder is fixed through its own mounting holes.

Finally pick the version: S adds a magnet for position sensors.

AirTAC MSG20 FAQ

Air extends the rod with about 109.9 N at 0.5 MPa (catalog value, spring force deducted); the internal spring retracts it when the port is vented. The force does not depend on the stroke code.

No. The return stroke is driven only by the internal spring, and AirTAC specifies that single-acting cylinders must not be loaded on it. Use a double-acting model if both directions must do work.

1/8" ports, PT thread as standard.

Every code on this page is the basic version without a mounting code; the cylinder is fixed through its own mounting holes.

Usually yes. Request a quote with the stroke, mounting and version and we will confirm whether it can be built, plus price and lead time.

0.2 to 1.0 MPa operating pressure (proof 1.5 MPa) and -20 to +70 °C on filtered air.

No. You can order a single MSG20. Orders are processed and handed to the carrier within 3-5 business days.
