The 4HV is a hand-turned rotary directional valve: the operator turns a knob and the air path switches. It is direct acting, with no pilot and no electricity, so it works wherever a manual control element is needed - a hand station to run a cylinder, or a lockable isolator on a machine. Three body sizes cover the range: 4HV2 (PT1/8 and PT1/4 ports), 4HV3 (PT1/4 and PT3/8) and 4HV4 (PT1/2 and PT3/4).
Every 4HV is a 4-port valve, in either 2-position (code 10) or 3-position (code 30). The 3-position version is closed centre only: it blocks both cylinder ports and the supply, letting the actuator stop where it is. The pressure range is 0 to 1.0 MPa (0 to 145 psi) - because the valve is direct acting there is no minimum operating pressure - with a temperature range of -20 to +70 C and air filtered to 40 um or finer. G and NPT threads are available alongside PT.
Two mounting styles and an optional handle position lock (code L) complete the line-up: S panel mount, supplied with a mounting nut, or valve body mount to bolt down inside the machine. Published flow per port size: Cv 0.78 (4HV2-06) and 0.89 (4HV2-08), 1.67 (4HV3-08) and 1.83 (4HV3-10), 4.89 (4HV4-15) and 5.27 (4HV4-20). The lock option does not change Cv.

Machine front-panel hand station
A 4HV21008S panel-mounted through the door of a machine enclosure gives the operator a knob that starts, stops and reverses a clamping or eject cylinder. The valve is direct acting, so no wiring or power is needed at the panel, and the mounting nut is supplied.
Mid-stroke stop on a press or clamp fixture
A 4-port 3-position 4HV in closed centre blocks both cylinder ports and the supply, so a workholder stops where the operator leaves it. This suits fixtures that need an intermediate position between fully advanced and fully retracted.
Lockable manual isolator on a supply line
A 4HV with the L option, such as a 4HV31008L, is turned off and then locked in position so the setting cannot be knocked over by an accidental hand. The L code is a position lock on the handle, not a certified safety lockout device.
Conveyor gate and diverter cylinders
The high-flow 4HV4 bodies, Cv 4.89 on PT1/2 and 5.27 on PT3/4, drive larger gate, diverter and stopper cylinders on conveyor lines through short 1/2-3/4 runs with low pressure loss.
How to Choose the Right Model
Pick the body series by flow and port size: 4HV2 for 1/8-1/4 lines (Cv 0.78-0.89), 4HV3 for 1/4-3/8 lines (Cv 1.67-1.83) and 4HV4 for 1/2-3/4 lines (Cv 4.89-5.27). Choose 2-position (10) for simple on/off switching of a cylinder, or 3-position (30) when the actuator must stop mid-stroke with both ports blocked - the 3-position is closed centre only, with no exhaust-centre or pressure-centre variant. Specify S to panel-mount a hand station through an enclosure front (mounting nut supplied) or blank to bolt the body down inside the machine, and add L when the knob position must be held deliberately and not knocked over.
Five points fix the part number: body series and port size, positions (10 or 30), thread (PT, G or NPT to match the fittings already on site), mounting (S or blank) and lock (L or blank) - for example 4HV21008SL is a 4HV2, 2-position, PT1/4, panel-mount valve with lock. Step out of the series when the job changes: the 4F / 3F foot-pedal valves free both hands, the 4H and HSV hand-slide valves give a sliding action, the 4A / 3A valves switch by air pilot, and the 4V solenoid valves do the same switching job electrically. Because the medium must be filtered to 40 um or better, fit a GF or GFR filter upstream.
