AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC SGCD is a double-rod large-bore tie-rod cylinder spanning 125-250 mm bores, delivering equal force in both directions for heavy-duty machines requiring high bidirectional thrust.
inventory_2170 models availableThe AirTAC SGCD series is a double-acting, double-rod pneumatic cylinder built on a robust tie-rod design. An aluminum barrel is clamped to the covers by four steel tie rods, and a piston rod extends from both ends. Because pressure acts on identical rod-side areas in both directions, the cylinder generates equal force on extend and retract strokes.
The range covers four large bores: 125, 160, 200, and 250 mm, with rod diameters from 32 mm up to 50 mm. Ports scale from G1/2 to G1. The theoretical pull force at 1.0 MPa spans about 1169 kgf on the 125 mm bore up to 4805 kgf on the 250 mm bore. Standard strokes extend to 1500 mm across all sizes.
Shared design features include adjustable air cushions at both ends that decelerate the piston near stroke end (this is not a mechanical lock). Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa with a proof pressure of 1.5 MPa. Standard temperature is -20 to +70 C, or 0-150 C with Viton H seals. Mounting options include Basic, FA, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, and TCM2. The series meets ISO 15552 mounting-interface interchangeability, allowing it to replace cylinders with matching ISO dimensions.

Drives heavy metal stamping presses where equal push and pull forces are required to feed and retract thick material stock without racking.
Handles large product diverters on high-capacity packaging lines, using the double-rod design to prevent uneven wear and maintain alignment.
Secures industrial molds and heavy platens. The tie-rod build withstands high 1.0 MPa operating pressures, delivering up to 4805 kgf of clamping force.
Choose within the SGCD series by matching the bore to your load requirement: the 125 mm bore provides about 5734 N of force at 0.5 MPa, while the 250 mm bore provides 23562 N at the same pressure. Select the 250 mm bore only when maximum bidirectional thrust is needed, as the larger rod (50 mm) and G1 ports require higher flow. Confirm these five points before ordering: bore size, required stroke up to 1500 mm, port thread (PT or G), mounting style (Basic, FA, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2), and whether a magnet (-S) is needed for CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors.
Step out of the SGCD series if you need a single-rod configuration for standard unidirectional tasks (consider the AirTAC SGC series) or an adjustable stroke mechanism (consider SGCJ). For smaller equal-force double-rod applications that do not require large-bore thrust, the AirTAC SAID or SED families provide a more compact solution. If load holding is required when pressure is lost, note that the SGCD air cushion only decelerates; you must add an external mechanical lock, rod brake, or pilot check valve.
Quick checklist
The SGCD series includes four bores: 125, 160, 200, and 250 mm. Rod diameters range from 32 to 50 mm. At 0.5 MPa, force spans 5734 N on the 125 mm bore to 23562 N on the 250 mm bore. Theoretical max pull force at 1.0 MPa spans 1169 kgf to 4805 kgf. Standard strokes reach up to 1500 mm.
The SGCD is a double-rod cylinder, meaning a rod extends from both ends to provide equal force in both directions. The SGC is a single-rod cylinder. SGCD is specifically designed for large-bore, high-thrust applications requiring bidirectional force, whereas SGC covers standard single-acting direction tasks.
Yes, the SGCD provides ISO 15552 (original ISO 6431) mounting-interface interchangeability. This means it can replace other cylinders with matching ISO mounting dimensions. The build is a robust tie-rod design with an aluminum barrel clamped by four steel tie rods.
No. The adjustable air cushions at both ends of the SGCD cylinder only decelerate the piston near the stroke end to reduce impact. They do not function as a lock or brake. If you need to hold a load when air pressure is lost, you must use an external mechanical lock, rod brake, or pilot check valve.
