About the AirTAC MID40

The AirTAC MID40 is a double-rod, double-acting stainless-steel mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and a 16 mm piston rod. The rod runs through both end covers, so push and pull are equal: 528 N at 0.5 MPa and 739 N at 0.7 MPa. Force depends on bore and pressure only, so every stroke on this page gives the same output.

All MID40 versions share 1/4" air ports, an M12×1.25 rod thread and rubber bumpers at both ends. The cylinder runs on filtered air between 0.15 and 1.0 MPa (proof 1.5 MPa), from -20 to +70 °C, at 30 to 800 mm/s. This page lists 20 stock order codes with strokes from 10 to 225 mm; the catalog maximum stroke is 500 mm.

Both directions act on the bore area minus the Ø16 mm rod area, because the rod passes through both end covers. Usable force is lower because of friction and back-pressure.

Where the MID40 Is Used

General automation

About 528 N at 0.5 MPa covers most pushing, lifting and indexing tasks.

Clamping fixtures

Rigid mountings hold the cylinder for clamps and presses.

Doors, gates and levers

Pivoting covers and brackets drive mechanisms that swing.

Choosing the Right MID40 Configuration

Start with the stroke. Pick the exact travel your machine needs; a longer stroke adds length, weight and air consumption without adding force. If your length is not listed, request a quote and we will confirm whether it can be built.

Then choose the mounting. Basic (no code) uses the cylinder's own mounting holes. Foot and flange mountings hold the cylinder rigid for straight-line loads; clevis and trunnion mountings let it pivot when the load moves in an arc.

Finally pick the version: S adds a magnet for position sensors.

AirTAC MID40 FAQ

No. Every MID40 gives about 528 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa, whatever the stroke.

1/4" ports, PT thread as standard.

Basic mounting only. Pick a pivoting cover or bracket when the load moves in an arc, a rigid one for straight-line loads.

Usually yes. Request a quote with the stroke, mounting and version and we will confirm whether it can be built, plus price and lead time.

0.15 to 1.0 MPa operating pressure (proof 1.5 MPa) and -20 to +70 °C on filtered air.

No. You can order a single MID40. Orders are processed and handed to the carrier within 3-5 business days.
