About the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG20X100S
The AirTAC MSG20X100S is a single acting, push type JIS mini cylinder with a 20 mm bore and 100 mm stroke: compressed air extends the rod, and an internal return spring retracts it when air is released. Because air is only needed on the work stroke, one air line and one valve port are enough, which saves air and simplifies the circuit for one-way clamping, ejecting or pressing. The push force is already net of the spring: about 109.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 172.7 N at 0.7 MPa. As a rule of thumb, size the working load at about 0.6 of the push force, so roughly 65 N, or about 6 kgf for a safe vertical lift at 0.5 MPa.
Construction is a round-body JIS-standard mini cylinder with a riveted SUS304 stainless barrel and a hard-chrome plated carbon steel rod, so it resists damp and washdown environments. The two-way lubricant-storing piston seal reduces wear, and a fixed anti-impact bumper pad softens the stroke ends without acting as a lock or brake. The fitted magnet (the S in the code) allows CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches to be mounted for end-position sensing. The port is 1/8" on every MSG bore, and the male rod thread is M8x1.25.

Spring-return clamping
Air pushes the 8 mm rod out to clamp a small fixture or workpiece; on air release the spring retracts the rod automatically, freeing the part with no return valve needed.
Part ejection
With about 109.9 N push at 0.5 MPa, the cylinder ejects finished small parts off a chute or nest at the end of a cycle, and the spring resets it for the next part.
Light lid press
The 172.7 N push at 0.7 MPa suits light press-fit and lid-closing jobs on small assemblies; the fixed bumper pad softens the end of the 100 mm stroke.
Is the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG20X100S the Right Cylinder?
Choose the MSG20X100S when a 20 mm bore gives enough force: about 109.9 N push at 0.5 MPa or 172.7 N at 0.7 MPa, net of the return spring. It is the smallest bore in the MSG range; step up to MSG25, MSG32 or MSG40 if you need more push. Remember the spring sets a 0.2 MPa (28 psi) minimum working pressure, and the spring-return travel caps standard strokes at 150 mm, so 100 mm is within range. If you need a two-directional stroke or a longer travel, choose the double-acting MG instead. Mounting options are LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis and SDB pivot, plus I and Y rod knuckles; this S-coded model carries a magnet for CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches.
