About the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG25X25
The MSG25X25 is a single acting JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 25 mm bore and 25 mm stroke: compressed air extends the piston rod, and an internal return spring retracts it when air is released. Because air is only needed on the work stroke, one air line and one valve port are enough, which saves air and simplifies the circuit for one-way clamping, ejecting or pressing. The 171.8 N push at 0.5 MPa is already net of the spring, and the spring sets a 0.2 MPa minimum working pressure. As a rule of thumb, size the working load at about 0.6 of the push force, roughly 103 N, or about 8 kg for a safe vertical lift.
Construction suits damp and washdown environments: a SUS304 stainless barrel with a hard-chrome (20 um) carbon-steel rod, riveted covers, a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal and a fixed anti-impact bumper pad that softens the stroke ends. The JIS footprint drops into standard JIS mini brackets and I or Y rod knuckles. The 1/8" port is common to every MSG bore, and the standard stroke range for this bore tops out at 150 mm, so the 25 mm stroke sits well inside it. Add the S code to fit CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches.

Spring-return clamp

Is the Airtac MSG Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MSG25X25 the Right Cylinder?
Choose the MSG25X25 when a compact 25 mm one-way stroke with spring return is enough and the load stays under about 103 N (0.6 of the 171.8 N push at 0.5 MPa). The 20 mm bore is the smallest MSG and gives only 109.9 N; the 32 mm bore reaches 281.3 N if you need more margin. Remember the spring sets a 0.2 MPa floor, so the cylinder cannot start below that pressure. If you need a two-directional stroke, position control on retract, or a stroke beyond the 150 mm MSG standard limit, step up to the double-acting MG. Mounting options are LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis and SDB pivot, plus I and Y rod knuckles; this model has no magnet, so position sensing requires the -S variant with CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches.
