A piston rod exits both the front and back covers, moving simultaneously. Because a rod occupies the piston area on both sides, the effective area is identical in each direction, yielding equal output force for both extension and retraction.
The range spans four bores (20, 25, 32 and 40mm) with standard strokes up to 300mm for the 20 and 25mm bores, and up to 500mm for the 32 and 40mm bores. At 0.5 MPa the series produces an equal force in both directions ranging from roughly 132N on the 20mm bore up to 528N on the 40mm bore. Ports are 1/8 inch across all sizes.
Construction includes a SUS304 stainless steel barrel and carbon-steel rods with 20um hard chrome plating. Instead of a variable air cushion, the MGD uses a fixed anti-impact bumper pad to decelerate the piston at stroke ends. The two-way lubricant-storing piston seal ensures long service life. The through-rod design inherently resists rotation and side load, keeping end positions repeatable while allowing the rear rod end to carry a stop flag or drive a second load.

Equal bidirectional force allows the rear rod end to drive a secondary mechanism or carry a stop flag simultaneously with the primary gripping action, synchronizing packaging movements.

Select the MGD when your application requires equal force in both directions, inherent anti-rotation, a rear rod end for a switch or stop flag, or the ability to drive two loads at once. Size the bore to your required force at the working pressure (using the 0.5 MPa figures as a baseline and keeping a safety margin), then specify the stroke (capped at 300mm or 500mm depending on bore). Add the S option (e.g. MGD25X100S) if you need CMSG, DMSG or EMSG sensors for end-of-stroke feedback. Choose FA flange or LB foot mounting, add an I or Y rod knuckle if needed, and match the thread (PT, G or NPT).
Step out of the MGD series if your application requires a variable air cushion for heavier loads or higher kinetic energy, or if you need larger 50mm and 63mm bores; in these cases, select the double-rod cushioned AirTAC MGCD series. If you only need a single rod, choose the AirTAC MG or MGC single-acting versions. Note that the MGD bumper pad only decelerates the piston; it does not hold position on air loss. For load holding, add an external rod lock or pilot check valve.

No. The fixed bumper pad only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; it is not a lock, brake or holding device. Like all double-acting air cylinders, the MGD cannot hold position on air loss. You must use an external rod lock or pilot check valve for load holding.
You must specify the S option in the ordering code (for example, MGD25X100S). This indicates a built-in magnet for use with AirTAC CMSG, DMSG or EMSG sensors. Models without the S designation cannot accept sensors.
