AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC TR series is a JIS-standard dual-rod cylinder in bores 6-32 mm whose two parallel rods give double the force, resist twisting and carry lateral load on a shared front plate.
inventory_234 models availableThe TR series is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder with two parallel piston rods driving one shared front plate. Because the two rods work together, the cylinder delivers double the output force for its bore, resists bending and twisting, and can carry a certain lateral load - so the load does not deflect or spin the way it would on a single-rod cylinder. Bores run from 6 mm (a size only TR offers in this family) up through 10, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm, with standard strokes from 10 mm up to 50 mm on bore 6, 100 mm on bore 10 and 200 mm on bores 16-32. The 6 mm bore needs 0.2-1.0 MPa (29-145 psi) to start; bores 16-32 run from 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). Speed range is 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the medium is air filtered to 40 um or finer.
TR is built to the JIS standard, which is the key difference from its sibling TN, built to AirTAC's own enterprise standard. TR also carries an extended sliding-bearing guide that gives high non-rotation accuracy and small rod-end deflection at the rod end, so it suits precise guiding duty - and that guide needs no added oil lubrication. An anti-collision pad at the front of the body cushions the impact and lets you shorten the effective stroke by setting the pad. Every model is magnet-fitted as standard, and a sensor drops into a groove that runs around the body - no band or bracket needed.
Practical build detail: the fixed plate has mounting holes on three faces (top, front, bottom), the body has mounting holes on every face except the axial ends, and there are two sets of inlet/exhaust ports, one on each side, so you can pipe from whichever side suits the run. Ports are M5x0.8 on bores 6-20 and 1/8 PT / G / NPT on bores 25 and 32. Ordering code: TR{bore}x{stroke}S{thread}, e.g. TR20x50S or TR32x100SG.

A vacuum or gripper head on a pick-and-place station needs the tool to arrive square every cycle. The TR dual-rod design with its extended sliding-bearing guide holds non-rotation accuracy and keeps rod-end deflection small, so the part is not skewed at pickup.
A stopper blade or ejector mounted on the shared front plate sees side load as parts pass under it. The two rods carry that lateral load, and the front anti-collision pad cushions the stroke end - and can be set to shorten the effective travel to match the line height.
A small press or marking head needs even, non-rotating descent on a compact footprint. Bore 6 (TR only) fits tight machines with strokes 10-50 mm, while bores 16-32 cover heavier heads with strokes to 200 mm, all magnet-fitted for end-position sensing.
Clamping a carton or tray from one side, with the fixture loaded from the top, front or bottom, suits the three-face mounting holes on the fixed plate. Dual rods double the clamping force for the bore, and two port sets per side keep tubing clear of guards.
Choose the bore for force - remember the dual-rod design doubles the force for a given bore - and the stroke for travel. Bore 6 is for the tightest installations (TR only), but note its 0.2 MPa minimum pressure and its 50 mm stroke ceiling; bore 10 goes to 100 mm; bores 16-32 go to 200 mm in discrete steps. Pick bores 25 or 32 when you want 1/8 PT, G or NPT ports rather than M5. Choose TR over TN when non-rotation accuracy and low rod-end deflection matter, or when JIS conformity is required. Keep the stroke sensible: the front cover and piston are both short, so an over-long stroke is not advisable, and pick a cylinder with force to spare when the working load varies.
Before ordering, confirm five points: bore, stroke (from the standard list per bore), port thread (M5x0.8, or G / NPT via the S-code suffix), mounting position (multi-face holes on plate and body), and the sensor groove if you need position detection - the magnet is standard on every model. If your job needs a guided rod rather than twin rods, step across to the AirTAC guided cylinder family instead. For horizontal or side mounting, stay within the manufacturer's allowable lateral load and allowable rod-end deflection for the selected bore - confirm both from the datasheet before fixing the mounting.
Quick checklist
Bores are 6, 10, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm. Standard strokes run 10-50 mm on bore 6, 10-100 mm on bore 10, and 10-200 mm on bores 16-32, in discrete values: 5 mm steps to 100 mm, then 125, 150, 175 and 200 mm. Check the stroke list for your bore before ordering. The 6 mm bore exists only on TR in the double-rod family.
TR is built to the JIS standard; TN follows AirTAC's own enterprise standard, so do not treat them as interchangeable. TR is the one that goes down to a 6 mm bore and the one with the extended sliding-bearing guide, which gives high non-rotation accuracy, small rod-end deflection and needs no added oil lubrication. If the tool must not twist, or JIS conformity is required, choose TR.
The code is TR{bore}x{stroke}S{thread}. Bore options are 6, 10, 16, 20, 25 or 32; the stroke is one of the standard values for that bore; S is always present because every TR model is magnet-fitted as standard - there is no non-magnetic version. The thread suffix is G for G thread and T for NPT; PT and M5 need no extra code. So TR20x50S is a 20 mm bore, 50 mm stroke with PT ports, and TR32x100SG is a 32 mm bore, 100 mm stroke with G threads.
Bores 6 and 10 need 0.2-1.0 MPa (29-145 psi) - the small bores need more pressure to start; bores 16-32 run 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). Ports are M5x0.8 on bores 6-20 and 1/8 PT / G / NPT on bores 25 and 32, with two inlet/exhaust port sets, one on each side.
