A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
A 12V battery-fed control point on a utility trailer or service vehicle, switching a single-acting lift or dump cylinder without needing an inverter or a generator on board.
A bench blow feed that stays shut until the coil is powered, so compressed air cannot reach the nozzle or chuck when the machine it serves is switched off.
Cycling a small single-acting cylinder in a laboratory fixture, where a 12V logic supply drives the coil directly and power-off returns the ram by its spring.
A DC12V coil is the natural fit where control power comes from a battery or vehicle supply; never substitute a different voltage, because the coil must match the source it is wired to. Normally closed means the line blocks the supply and vents on power loss, which is what most single-acting cylinder and blow duties want. If several such valves sit side by side on one machine, a 3V-F manifold base lets them share a single air feed and a single wiring loom. Sizing is the open question: with no published flow data for this family in our hands, let us confirm it against your actuator by RFQ, or choose the fully documented 3V2 / 3V3 bodies, which carry published flow and coil power. Double-acting cylinders are out of scope here and need an AirTAC 4V valve.
