A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
A single-point pressure test station on a QA bench keeps its supply and wiring layout identical to the plant's larger 3V2M banks.

A base-mounted 3V2M valve flows Cv 0.1, less than an individually piped 3V2 at Cv 0.18 (1/8") or 0.19 (1/4"), so pick an individual 3V2 or the 3V3 (Cv 0.62, 1/4", vacuum-rated) where this one point needs more flow. The 3V1 saves power at 3.0 W DC for small duties. For a double-acting cylinder use the AirTAC 4V series. NC and NO are fixed at order time.

The mounted 3/2 valve gives Cv 0.1, works at 0-0.8 MPa (0-114 psi) and -20 to 70 C, is IP65 (DIN 40050) protected, and draws 7 VA on AC or 7.0 W on DC depending on the coil ordered. The 1-station base itself carries none of these ratings - it is unpowered.
The block is machined for one station, so extra positions mean ordering a larger base; 3V2M stations combine and expand freely as separate blocks. NC or NO is fixed by the valve you order and cannot be reversed afterwards - flipping the base gasket does not convert the state.
