A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
The clamp, stop and lift functions of a three-position indexing dial can share this base, all venting to one common exhaust line piped away from the work area.

Order 3V2M valves onto this base when manifold density beats raw flow: each station is Cv 0.1 because the air path runs through the base rather than out of its own port. A station that needs more flow is better served by an individual 3V2 (Cv 0.18 at 1/8 in, Cv 0.19 at 1/4 in, and vacuum-rated) or by 3V3 at Cv 0.62 on 1/4 in, which tops the 3V range; light, power-sensitive circuits can use 3V1 at 3.0 W DC. Double-acting cylinders need a 5-port valve - go to the AirTAC 4V series.
Match five points before you buy: for every valve, its initial state (NC or NO, fixed at purchase - the base gasket cannot be reversed to change it), coil voltage and electrical entry (DIN plug or flying lead I); for the base, the station count and the exhaust arrangement. Centralised exhaust is what this code offers; suffix D gives independent venting per station. PT threading is standard, G and NPT are order options.
