The D in 3V2M4FD changes where the air goes after the valve: instead of one shared exhaust tee, each of the four stations has its own exhaust port on the block. A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
Four stopper and guide-pin actuators along a conveyor line each vent at their own location, so discharging one pin does not blast product at the neighbouring station.
A machine guard gate lock, a latched interlock and two clamps sit on one block, with the safety-related function exhausting at its own port away from general vent noise.
Fast air-jet ejectors on a packaging sorter benefit from independent exhausts, since shared venting between four rapid-fire jets would cause pressure spikes and mis-ejections.
Choose the 4FD over the plain 4F when the four functions need separate vent points rather than a common duct. The flow caveat still applies: through-base routing gives each valve Cv 0.1, so for a high-flow station move that function to an individual 3V2 (Cv 0.18 at 1/8 in, Cv 0.19 at 1/4 in, and vacuum-rated) or a 3V3 (Cv 0.62, 1/4 in, vacuum-rated); low-power duties can drop to 3V1 at 3.0 W DC. Double-acting cylinders are a 5-port job - use the AirTAC 4V series.
Order each valve with its own initial state (NC or NO, fixed at purchase - the base gasket cannot be flipped to convert it), coil voltage and electrical entry (DIN plug or flying lead I), then confirm the four stations, the independent exhaust and the thread.
