AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X70-40 runs on a 16 mm bore and 70 mm stroke and delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa). A stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 30-70 mm, so one cylinder can be tuned to several fixture positions without reordering. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. At 0.5 MPa plan for roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of usable push rather than the full 100.5 N rating, enough to lift a 3 kg part vertically with margin. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - this unit has no magnet fitted.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick finished 16 mm-shaft parts off a CNC jig, and the 30-70 mm adjustable range lets the setter dial in the eject position without swapping cylinders.
With the optional -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm clamp state on a rotary indexing table; the 75.4 N pull retracts the clamp cleanly between cycles at 30-500 mm/s.
About 60 N of usable push (roughly 6 kg) seats small plastic bushings into housings on an electronics assembly bench, with the TPU bumper softening the end of each 70 mm stroke.
Size up or down by force: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - pick the 16 mm when 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa covers the job with margin. The 40 mm window suits stations where the final extend position is tuned during commissioning; remember the stop is a mechanical end stop only, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Order the -S code if you need magnet-based CMSE / DMSE sensing, and specify FA/FB flange or LB foot to match your fixture. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X70 instead - it is the current drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, but confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from this DIN-standard ACP body.
