The AirTAC Airtac CMS Reed Switch Cylinder Sensors CMSE-M08030 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a m8 connector. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This is the M8-connector version of AirTAC's CMSE reed family. The body carries a magnetic reed element - a true mechanical contact rather than solid-state electronics - and seats in the groove of a magnet-fitted AirTAC cylinder. Wiring leaves as an M8 connector on a 3 m pigtail, ready to mate with standard pre-wired M8 cordsets. The circuit is 2-wire, the contact switches 5-240 V AC/DC, and the general housing is IP64. Profile E sets the groove fit.
The connector is the maintenance win: to change a cylinder you unplug at the M8 instead of cutting and re-terminating a lead, and a damaged cordset swaps in seconds. Three metres of pigtail reaches an I/O block or junction box mounted well away from the cylinder. Note the reed contact is mechanical - tolerant of AC and DC, but a wearing part under very fast cycling. Profile E must seat correctly in your cylinder's groove, so confirm the series with us before ordering.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| E | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| M08030 | M8 connector. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Position proof on the diverter cylinder, plugged straight into a multi-port M8 I/O block beside the conveyor.
End-of-stroke signal on shuttle clamp cylinders, where the 3 m pigtail reaches the junction box on the lift mast.
Quick-disconnect M8 lets toolsetters exchange clamping cylinders without opening the control cabinet.
Pick the M08030 when your machine is already cabled with M8 cordsets, or when the switch sits far from the panel and you want one continuous run. Reed versus electronic comes down to the circuit: this contact accepts AC or DC from 5 to 240 V with no polarity, while a DMS electronic switch is DC-only. If you would rather terminate cable yourself, the 030 flying-lead code gives the same switch with a bare 3 m lead. Every CMS needs a magnet-equipped cylinder, and profile E has to match the groove.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Type: magnetic reed with a mechanical contact, not solid-state. Output: 2-wire. Supply: 5-240 V AC/DC. Protection: IP64, general type. Wiring: M8 connector on a 3 m pigtail. The profile letter E is the fit code for the cylinder groove.
The connector lets you unplug the switch for cylinder service and replace a damaged cable without re-terminating anything - valuable on machines where access is awkward. The 3 m pigtail also spans the distance to a remote I/O block. A flying-lead version is cheaper but must be cut, wired and re-made at every change.
