The AirTAC Airtac CMSH Reed Sensor CMSH-020 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a 2 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This CMSH-020 is a reed position switch: its output is a mechanical magnetic contact that behaves like a plain limit switch, wired 2-wire with no polarity. It reads the piston magnet of an AirTAC cylinder equipped with the magnet option and closes when the piston passes the groove where the unit sits. The H profile selects the groove fit, the 020 wiring is a 2 m flying lead, the supply range is 5-240 V AC/DC, and the housing is rated IP64.
Because the lead is unterminated for 2 metres, you can route it neatly through a cable duct and trim exactly what the run needs - shorter tails, no coiled surplus in the panel. A reed contact also carries no electronics, so it survives AC and DC supplies without any polarity discipline; the counterpoint is contact bounce and a finite mechanical life at extreme cycle counts. Check that the H profile matches the groove of your cylinder series before you order.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| H | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 020 | 2 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

The real decisions with this family: reed (CMS) versus electronic (DMS/EMS) is a circuit question - AC or mixed supply and simple series wiring favour the reed, PLC inputs and high-speed cycling favour solid-state DC units. Among reed models, choose a 2 m lead like this one for cut-to-length economy, or an M8/M12 connector version when service access matters. Only DMS/EMS -RW switches reach IP68; a reed stays IP64. The cylinder must be magnet-equipped and the H profile must fit its groove - confirm the match with us.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
As a reed switch it accepts 5-240 V AC or DC with either wire polarity, its 2-wire contact drops into the circuit like a mechanical switch, and the general-type housing is IP64. The wiring is a 2 m flying lead, and the H profile is the groove-fit code. Contact ratings beyond this are not in our data - request the datasheet.
No. Here the H is the profile letter that sets how the body seats in the cylinder groove. The high-temperature version is written with a trailing -H, as in CMSH-020-H. Both letters sit in different positions of the ordering code and mean different things.
