The AirTAC Airtac CMSH Reed Sensor CMSH-C08 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
AirTAC's CMSH-C08 is a reed position switch from the CMS line. It detects the magnet in a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder piston and closes a 2-wire contact at the set position. The C08 token in the wiring position is a factory connection code; we will confirm its meaning from the datasheet. The supply window is 5-240 V AC/DC and the standard housing is IP64.
A reed switch is a mechanical contact, not solid-state: it ignores polarity and runs straight on AC or DC. The H profile letter is a groove-fit code, not a grade, and it has to match the sensor groove of your cylinder - send us the cylinder series and we will verify the seating.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| H | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 08 | See datasheet. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Adding end-of-stroke signals to an older machine? A reed contact drops into existing 230 V AC relay circuits without a power supply or interface card.
Technicians replacing failed switches on a packaging machine keep one reed type in the drawer because it covers both AC and DC control circuits.
Vertical lift cylinders on an AS/RS shuttle confirm home and top positions to a relay logic panel.
The CMSH-C08 keeps the classic reed formula - 2-wire, wide 5-240 V AC/DC supply, series wiring like a limit switch - while the C08 connection code marks a factory variant we will verify against the datasheet. If you would rather have a defined flying lead or an M8/M12 connector, the numbered wiring codes (020-100, M08*, M12*) spell those out. Remember the cylinder needs the built-in magnet, and the H profile has to seat correctly in its groove.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Reed (CMS) type, 2-wire output, 5-240 V AC/DC supply, IP64 housing. The C08 connection code is a factory variant - request the datasheet and we will confirm its exact detail.
A reed contact has no polarity and no NPN/PNP choice, so it fits AC and DC circuits alike and wires in series like a mechanical limit switch. Solid-state DMS switches in 3-wire NPN or PNP form are the better match for a dedicated PLC input - but they are DC only. Both families need a magnet-fitted cylinder.
