The AirTAC Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSE-NM08 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a npn 3-wire output on 5-30 V DC with a m8 connector. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
The DMSE-NM08 is AirTAC's DMS electronic cylinder switch with an M8 connector on a 0.5 m lead. The N in the ordering code means an NPN 3-wire output, and E selects the groove-fitting profile. Supply voltage is 5-30 V DC, the standard body is rated IP64, and like every sensor in this family it detects the piston magnet only - the cylinder itself must be ordered with the magnet option.
The 0.5 m stub ends in an M8 plug, so a damaged cable is replaced at the connector instead of at the terminal rail - a genuine saving inside guarded machinery where switches sit behind covers, since the switch stays set in its groove while only the cordset is swapped. Three-wire NPN output keeps the signal path separate from the supply pair, delivering a clean sinking level to the PLC with no mechanical contact to bounce or wear. The profile letter is a fit code for the cylinder groove, not a grade; match it to the body before ordering.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| E | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| N | Output: NPN 3-wire. Blank is 2-wire, N is NPN 3-wire, P is PNP 3-wire. |
| M08 | M8 connector. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |

The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Signals the clamp cylinder state on each pallet change, letting the controller release the carousel only when both clamps are proven home.
The M8 plug lets technicians disconnect and re-route cabling during torch-arm service without disturbing the switch setting in the groove.
Each gate cylinder carries its own switch, and the connectors allow a damaged gate module to be swapped in minutes on a busy line.
Use this model where a plug-in termination beats a hardwired lead: maintenance teams can unplug the M8 and swap a cable without pulling terminals. It suits a 5-30 V DC control circuit with NPN (sinking) PLC inputs; choose the P version for sourcing inputs or a plain 2-wire lead for the simplest loop. Standard protection is IP64 - step up to the -RW build for washdown or moving cable runs. A magnet-fitted piston and the correct groove profile are both required.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Solid-state electronic switch, NPN 3-wire output, 5-30 V DC supply, IP64 protection in the standard build, and an M8 connector with a 0.5 m lead as termination. It is not a reed switch and carries no AC rating. Switching current and other limits: confirm from the datasheet.
A cut-to-length lead is the cheapest route, but behind machine guards an M8 plug lets you unplug and replace a cable without opening the terminal rail or moving the switch in its groove. Keep the mating point dry, or specify the -RW build, which raises protection from IP64 to IP68 for wet areas and flexing runs. The E profile must still fit the cylinder groove, and the piston needs the factory magnet.
