Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08

The AirTAC Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a pnp 3-wire output on 5-30 V DC with a m8 connector. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.

About the Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08

The DMSH-PM08 is an electronic (solid-state) magnetic position switch in AirTAC's DMS series. Mounted in the sensor groove of a cylinder ordered with the magnet option, it signals when the piston reaches it. This version carries a 2-wire output, runs on 10-28 V DC, is sealed to IP64, and connects through an M8 connector with a 0.5 m pigtail, so the sensor can be unplugged for service without disturbing the machine loom.

Because the 2-wire output sits in series with the load just like a mechanical contact, panel changes stay simple - only a small leakage current flows in the off state. The H in the code is the profile: a fit code that must match your cylinder's groove, not a performance grade. Send the cylinder series with your enquiry and we will confirm the correct pairing before you order.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

Which Family Do You Need?

  • DMSElectronic, 2-wire / NPN / PNP, DC
  • EMSMini electronic, 2-wire only, DC
  • CMSReed contact, 2-wire, 5-240 V AC/DC

The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

This switchDMSH · PNP 3-wire · 5-30 V DC
Consider EMSthe mini 2-wire electronic switch for tight installations
Consider CMSthe reed alternative for AC circuits and voltages up to 240 V
Mounting partsF-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod)

Where the Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08 Is Used

sensors

Gripper end-of-stroke check

Mounted on the closing cylinder of a pick-and-place gripper, the M8 connector drops straight into the robot cell's sensor box, so a damaged cable is replaced in seconds.

conveyor_belt

Carton pusher retraction

On a case-packing conveyor, the 2-wire output sits in series with the counter circuit to confirm the pusher cylinder has fully retracted before the next carton indexes.

settings_input_component

M8 I/O block wiring

Control panel builders run the 0.5 m M8 pigtail directly to a junction block, keeping the cabinet loom standardised across every cylinder position.

Is the Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08 the Right Switch?

Choose this DMS electronic switch over the CMS reed family when your circuit is DC and cycles often: a solid-state output never bounces and suits fast, repeated triggering. If the input card prefers a dedicated signal line, step up to the 3-wire NPN (N) or PNP (P) versions of the same DMS range. Running AC, or wanting the enormous 5-240 V AC/DC window? The reed-contact CMS family is built for that. Keep the M8 connector here for quick swap-out at the machine, pick a bare flying lead where cost leads, and specify -RW if IP68 waterproofing is needed. Fit depends on the profile letter seating correctly in the groove of your magnet-equipped cylinder.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Cylinder has a piston magnet
  • ✓ Profile letter fits your cylinder groove
  • ✓ Output matches the PLC input (PNP 3-wire)
  • ✓ Supply rail is 5-30 V DC
  • ✓ Lead length or M8 / M12 connector
  • ✓ Coolant or flexing? Use the RW version

Installation & Wiring Notes

  • check The cylinder must carry a piston magnet — a plain cylinder cannot be sensed.
  • check Slide the switch along the groove to the stop position, then lock it.
  • check Keep the supply within 5-30 V DC.
  • check Wire pnp 3-wire to match the PLC input's polarity.
  • check Keep the lead clear of moving parts; use the RW type where it must flex.
  • check Rated IP64 — protect it beyond that rating.

Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.

Airtac DMS Electronic Cylinder Switches DMSH-PM08 FAQ

It is an electronic (solid-state) sensor with a 2-wire output. Supply voltage is 10-28 V DC, ingress protection is IP64 for the general type, and the connection is an M8 connector with a 0.5 m pigtail. Load current, voltage drop and other limits: confirm from the datasheet.

Only if the cylinder was ordered with the built-in magnet option - without a magnet piston the switch senses nothing. The profile letter (here H) must also match the cylinder's sensor groove, so tell us the cylinder series and we will verify the fit before quoting.
