The AirTAC Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-C08 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 10-28 V DC. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
The DMSE-C08 is an E-profile 2-wire electronic switch in the AirTAC DMS family. It detects the piston magnet of an AirTAC cylinder specified with the magnet option, runs on 10-28 V DC and carries IP64 sealing in the general construction. The wiring position of this code reads C08. AirTAC's catalogue data we hold documents M8 and M12 connector options but does not define what C08 specifies, so we carry the token through unchanged and will confirm the exact connection detail from the datasheet on request.
Functionally nothing about the sensing side changes: it remains a solid-state 2-wire unit that closes the circuit when the magnetised piston arrives. The open question is purely how the cable terminates at the switch body. Treat the E profile as a fit code for the cylinder groove and confirm the pairing with your cylinder series before committing.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

On a high-speed pick-and-place gantry, magnet-fitted gripper cylinders signal home position through this solid-state switch, giving the motion controller bounce-free feedback.
A bench-mounted torque press proves its hold-down cylinder is clamped via the DMSE-C08 before the spindle is allowed to start, wired in series at 10-28 V DC.
Height-adjustable stopper rails on an assembly conveyor report each position stop through a switch in the cylinder groove, feeding the line's recipe controller.
Specify the DMSE-C08 when your drawing calls for that exact suffix; otherwise choose from the documented wiring table - flying leads in 2, 3, 5 or 10 m, or M8/M12 connector versions. The electrical fundamentals are settled: 2-wire solid-state output, 10-28 V DC, IP64. If you need a three-wire signal for a PLC input card, the NPN or PNP DMS variants are the documented route. This sensor alone does nothing - it needs a magnet-equipped cylinder and a matching groove profile.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
It is a DMS electronic (solid-state) position switch, 2-wire output, 10-28 V DC supply, IP64 protection in the general type. The wiring code is C08, an undocumented connection position - we will confirm from the datasheet whether it refers to a connector or another termination style.
A reed switch such as AirTAC's CMS family uses a mechanical contact and runs on anything from 5-240 V AC or DC, but the contact has a finite life and can bounce on fast cycles. This DMSE unit is solid-state: DC only, no moving contact, no bounce, better suited to rapid repetitive signalling - in exchange, polarity and supply limits must be respected.
