The AirTAC Airtac EMSH Electronic Sensor EMSH-050-W is a genuine EMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 10-28 V DC with a 5 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
The EMSH-050-W is AirTAC's mini electronic position switch in the H profile. Solid-state and 2-wire, it reads the piston magnet of an AirTAC cylinder fitted with the -S magnet option and signals when the piston reaches it. This version carries a 5 m flying lead, works on a 10-28 V DC supply, and the standard body is rated IP64.
The trailing -W is a factory special-code position that is not described in our data - we will confirm exactly what it adds from the datasheet on request, and we keep the rating at the general IP64 until then. Because the sensor is solid-state, there is no contact bounce and it suits fast, repeated cycling better than a mechanical reed. The H profile is a fit code for the cylinder groove, not a grade - match it to your cylinder's sensor channel before ordering.

Every EMS is 2-wire on a 10-28 V DC supply; there is no NPN / PNP version. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Mounted on a short-stroke stopper cylinder at the end of a parcel sortation conveyor, the 5 m lead reaches the junction box without an extension, and the solid-state output keeps up with high-frequency cycling that would wear a reed contact.
A machine shop fits the EMSH-050-W to the compact clamp cylinder of a CNC fixture so the PLC only starts the cut once the part is confirmed clamped; the mini body fits the narrow groove on the small-bore cylinder.
On a packaging line's transfer arm, the 5 m cut-to-length lead is routed along the moving cable track, and the 2-wire loop drops straight into an existing relay circuit at 24 V DC.
Pick the EMS family when you want a compact solid-state sensor on a 2-wire loop that behaves like a mechanical contact in series with your load, with 10-28 V DC supply. Choose the flying-lead version (2 to 10 m) when you can cut and terminate the cable yourself; take an M8 or M12 connector version instead if you want to unplug the sensor during service. The H profile must match the groove on your cylinder body - confirm the fit before you buy, and remember the cylinder itself needs the magnet option or the switch has nothing to detect.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
It is an electronic (solid-state) mini switch with a 2-wire output, supplied from 10-28 V DC. The standard body carries an IP64 protection rating, and this model is fitted with a 5 m flying lead. The -W code suffix is a factory special we will confirm from the datasheet on request - until then the stated rating is the general IP64.
Both sit in the cylinder groove and read the piston magnet, but a reed switch closes a mechanical contact and tolerates AC or DC supplies, whereas the EMS is solid-state: DC only, no contact bounce, and no mechanical wear from frequent cycling. On a fast-cycling DC circuit the electronic type is the natural choice; for a mixed AC/DC panel with simple switching, a CMS reed type may fit better. Either way, the cylinder must have the built-in magnet option.
