How to choose
Size the bore to the load: the 20 mm bore gives about 157.1 N theoretical push at 0.5 MPa (push side is higher than pull side) over a 0.15-1.0 MPa operating range. Keep MD if rod rotation is acceptable in your mechanism, or move to MK for no-rotating duty. Acting choices are double (MD), single push (MSD), single pull (MTD), double rod (MDD) and adjustable stroke (MDJ).
The 45 mm stroke is within the 60 mm maximum for a 20 mm double-acting bore, but the short-cover design cautions against over-long strokes. Applications
Ejector on small stations
Fix the body vertically from the top plate of a station and use the 45 mm stroke to eject finished parts from a nest, with the bumper softening the return.
Indexing stop
Mount the cylinder from the side or underside of a conveyor to raise a stop between indexing steps, needing no switch feedback so the non-magnetic SKU keeps cost down.
Machine gate actuation

FAQ
Does MD20X45 include a magnet for position switches?
No. There is no trailing S in the code, so this cylinder is supplied without a magnet. If you need magnetic switch detection, order the MD20X45S variant; the switch slots are still present around the body either way.
Why is a 45 mm stroke fine on this cylinder?
A 20 mm bore double-acting MD cylinder supports strokes up to 60 mm, and 45 mm sits safely inside that. The compact short-cover body does caution against specifying strokes longer than the table allows, so check longer strokes and exact dimensions with the datasheet.
