About the Airtac PAL Plastic Silencer PAL01
A silencer sits on the exhaust port of a directional valve and breaks up the pressure pulse that would otherwise leave as a sharp crack of escaping air. The PAL01 does this with a polyethylene-fibre element and reaches 25 dB of noise reduction at 0.5 MPa, which is the higher of the two figures AirTAC publishes for its silencer range.
The body and top cover are moulded in POM, so the part is light and will not corrode in damp ambient air. It screws onto a 1/8in PT thread (size code 01). The PAL series is resin-only, and PAL01 is the smallest threaded size it comes in - there is no M5 version of this series, so 1/8in is the entry point.

Is the Airtac PAL Plastic Silencer PAL01 the Right Part?
Choose resin when noise is the priority: PAL cuts 25 dB where a sintered-brass BSL in the same 1/8in thread manages 13 dB. The trade is robustness - metal survives knocks, hot oily exhaust and dirty plant air better than a fibre element, so reserve PAL for sheltered or noise-critical positions. If you also need to throttle the exhaust speed, step to the BESL01 throttling silencer instead, which combines a sintered ring with an adjustable valve.
PAL01 is the smallest size in the ladder; the next step up is PAL02 (1/4in PT). Size the silencer to the valve's exhaust port rather than down - an undersized or clogged muffler restricts exhaust flow and visibly slows the cylinder's return stroke.
