AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC BSAI series is an ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a built-in bidirectional clamp-lock, spanning 32-125mm bores to securely hold loads at any mid-stroke position without live air.
inventory_2308 models availableThe AirTAC BSAI series is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder that integrates a spring-applied, air-released clamping mechanism. Unlike stroke-end locks, the BSAI clamps the piston rod directly to hold a load securely at ANY position along the stroke. The clamp is bidirectional, meaning it holds the rod whether the cylinder was extending or retracting.
The series spans 7 bores from 32 to 125mm. The static holding force scales with bore size, starting at about 600 N for the 32mm bore. The theoretical push force at 0.5 MPa spans from about 402 N on the 32mm bore up to about 6136 N on the 125mm bore, matching the standard SAI cylinder force class.
Operationally, the clamp uses a third G1/8 port for the enclasp/unlock function, separate from the two standard cylinder ports. The lock engages only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. To release the clamp safely, pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced or the cylinder must be stopped, otherwise the rod can move abruptly upon release.

Holding heavy overhead jigs or lifted platens at intermediate heights. The BSAI clamp-lock engages after the cylinder stops, preventing gravity-driven drops if air pressure is lost.
Pausing a pallet at a non-stroke-end inspection station. The bidirectional lock holds the load securely whether the rod was extending or retracting, ensuring stable scanning.
Securing a workpiece at varied mid-stroke positions for sequential drilling. The lock eliminates drift from vibration without continuously consuming live air.
Choose the bore size based on your required push force and holding force: the 32mm bore provides about 402 N push and 600 N static hold, while the 125mm bore provides up to 6136 N push. If your application only requires locking at the stroke end, consider the SAIL series. If you need a double-rod configuration with a clamp lock, look at the BSAID series. For a plain ISO 15552 cylinder without a lock, use the SAI series.
When submitting an RFQ, confirm these 5 points: 1) Bore size (32-125mm), 2) Stroke length, 3) Port thread size, 4) Mounting style (ISO 15552 interface), and 5) Magnet option for sensor switches. Always verify the static holding force is sufficient for your load, and note that if human safety depends on the hold, an additional independent safety measure is required.
Quick checklist
The BSAI series includes 7 bores from 32 to 125mm. The static holding force is documented per bore, starting at about 600 N for the 32mm bore. The double-acting push force at 0.5 MPa spans from about 402 N on the 32mm bore to about 6136 N on the 125mm bore.
It uses a spring-applied, air-released gripper that clamps the piston rod directly. It requires a third G1/8 port to release the clamp. The lock is bidirectional and holds at any position, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped and cannot brake a moving rod.
No. The BSAI lock is a load-holding clamp, not a dynamic brake. It cannot stop a moving rod, and if human safety depends on the hold, an additional independent safety measure is required. Also, the rod can move abruptly on release if piston pressures are not balanced.
The BSAI locks at ANY position along the stroke, whereas the SAIL only locks at the stroke end. The SAI is a plain ISO 15552 cylinder with no locking mechanism. All three share the same ISO 15552 mounting interface.
