The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X5SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE12X5SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP12X5SB extends its 6 mm rod with air and retracts on the built-in spring, so one air line is all the plumbing a 5 mm stroke needs. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 40 N net of the spring (62.7 N at 0.7 MPa), and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa (28-145 psi working band, 1.5 MPa proof). The -S magnet this model carries lets you clip CMSE or DMSE switches straight onto the body for end-of-stroke sensing.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and micro clamping fixtures. For sizing, 40 N at 0.5 MPa is about a 4 kg force class; keep real work near 24 N and expect roughly 2 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ASE12X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm kick from the 6 mm rod nudges small machined or moulded parts off a nest; 40 N at 0.5 MPa clears chips and light parts, and the spring returns the pin when air drops.
Short-stroke presence checks on an electronics assembly line: air extends the probe, the -S magnet trips a CMSE switch at the extended position, and the spring retracts it between cycles.
Clamping thin PCBs or small brackets in a test fixture - about 24 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holds light workpieces, and the short body fits inside the fixture plate.
At 12 mm bore this sits at the bottom of the range: 40 N push at 0.5 MPa net of the spring. If your part weighs more than about 2 kg to lift or your clamp needs over 24 N of real work, step up to the 16 mm bore (78.4 N at 0.5 MPa) or 20 mm (127.4 N); if 40 N is generous, there is nothing smaller in the family. The male rod thread (B code) takes an I/Y knuckle directly, and the PT port is M5x0.8. On air loss the spring drives the rod home retracted - it will not hold a mid-stroke position. Order the ASE12X5 as the current drop-in successor.

The short ISO 21287-class body cuts mounting length by about half versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end. This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount on the body. The model is discontinued; the current-production ASE12X5 is the drop-in successor - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
