This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE16X10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE16X10S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE16X10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10S

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP16X10S extends its 8 mm rod with compressed air and retracts it by spring, needing only one air line and a minimum of 0.2 MPa to beat the spring. This 16 mm bore size delivers 78.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (118.6 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the return spring, over a short 10 mm stroke. The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the short ISO 21287-class build roughly 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.

Because the -S code is in this model, the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the body for end-of-stroke signalling. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod; on air loss the spring simply drives it home retracted. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ASE16X10, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE16X10S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø16mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa118.6 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Micro part ejection

Punching a 10 mm push stroke at 78.4 N to eject small plastic caps from an injection mould nest on a packaging line.

Light gate latching

Spring-retracting latch on a laboratory test fixture door, where air loss must always return the pin to the safe retracted position.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10S with the ASE16X10S

At 78.4 N push at 0.5 MPa, plan on roughly 47 N of usable work rather than the full rating - about 4 kgf, or roughly 2 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. If your load is heavier, step up to the 20 mm bore (127.4 N at 0.5 MPa) or the 25 mm bore (210.1 N at 0.5 MPa); if lighter, the 12 mm bore gives 40 N. The female M4x0.7 rod thread and M5x0.8 port suit small clamping fixtures, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face family. Since the ASP is discontinued, order the ASE16X10 as the current replacement.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE16X10S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10S FAQ

Push is 78.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 118.6 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It is single acting: air extends the rod and the spring retracts it, so one air line suffices. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 0.2 MPa the minimum to overcome the spring, proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, and -20 to +70 C temperature range.

The short ISO 21287-class aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits tight jigs and guards. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly on the body. The 10 mm stroke is within the standard range for the 16 mm bore, and the discontinued ASP16X10S is replaced by the ASE16X10 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
