Delivering a robust 434.8 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, this AirTAC MTF40X25SU is engineered for heavy-duty tensioning and air-close applications. It is a single-acting, spring-return cylinder where the internal spring normally holds the rod extended, while supplied air retracts it. Because the spring actively pushes the rod out, the cylinder fails safely to the extended position if air pressure drops, preventing unintended collapses. The quoted pull force is already net of the spring resistance, and a minimum of 0.2 MPa is required to overcome it.

Built as a JIS-standard round-body mini cylinder, it features a SUS304 stainless steel barrel and riveted aluminium covers that resist mild corrosion and washdown environments. For the same bore and stroke, this compact body is shorter than an ISO 6432 cylinder, saving valuable mounting length without claiming compliance to that standard. This specific 40 mm bore variant uses a 1/4" port and a 16 mm rod with an M14x1.5 male thread. The U flat-end back cover provides a flush rear mounting surface. It includes a built-in piston magnet (-S) for CMSG, DMSG, or EMSG switches, and relies on fixed TPU bumper pads for end-of-stroke deceleration across its 50-800 mm/s speed range.

When sizing this actuator, the effective vertical lift capacity is approximately 22.2 kg when applying a conservative 2:1 safety margin to the 0.5 MPa pull figure. Alternatively, the safe working load is roughly 261 N, equating to about 60% of its rated output. If your mechanism requires less force, the next size down is the MTF32, which provides 266.8 N of pull at 0.5 MPa. As 40 mm is the largest available bore in this series, exceeding this capacity would require an alternative solution.
