The PTL603AD is a push-lock speed controller that meters air flowing from its 3/8in PT thread port out through the Dia 6 tube, while the return path passes freely. That is the meter-out (A) arrangement AirTAC recommends as first choice: with a solenoid valve driving a double-acting cylinder, throttling the exhaust builds a back-pressure cushion so the rod travels at a set speed instead of slamming under load.
The adjuster is a POM push-lock cap instead of a hand knob. Press the cap to release, twist to set the throttling column, then push home and the setting is held. AirTAC publishes a fitting torque of 0.24 N.m for the 3/8in cap, the only torque figure in this range, so you can seat it without splitting the POM. The D suffix means the body is black rather than the standard grey, useful where a visible grey fitting would spoil the look of a machine front. Keep the 3/8in port when your valve or manifold port is that size and your circuit already uses Dia 6 tubing, so you avoid adapters. Note that PTL has no M5 option at all, so sub-miniature work stays on PSL or PSS.
Choose this push-lock body when the setting must survive vibration or passing hands; choose a PSL knob type only if you re-tune stroke speeds between batches. Fit the controller at the cylinder port, not back at the valve, so the small throttled volume gives fast, repeatable response.
