The AirTAC Airtac SCD Standard Cylinder SCD32X30 is a genuine double-acting DOUBLE-ROD air cylinder: the Ø12mm piston rod extends from BOTH end caps, giving equal effective area — and therefore equal force — in push and pull. Ø32mm bore, 30mm stroke, PT1/8 ports and adjustable end cushioning.
The SCD32X30 is a compact double-rod pneumatic cylinder where the 12 mm piston rod extends from both ends, giving identical push and pull force of 345 N at 0.5 MPa. With a short 30 mm stroke and a body length A of 187 mm, it fits neatly into tight fixtures where a rear rod connection is needed for a sensor flag or secondary tooling.
Both directions share the same effective piston area, so speed and thrust are perfectly balanced—ideal for precision two-sided actuation in light assembly. The cylinder uses PT1/8 ports and features an adjustable air cushion (21 mm) to decelerate the piston quietly at end of travel.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SCD (double-rod) datasheet. Because the rod runs through both caps, the effective area is (bore² − rod²) in both directions. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT (standard) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 346 N | 346 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 484 N | 484 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 70 kgf | |
Push and pull are EQUAL on a double-rod cylinder — both chambers lose the rod area, so effective area = (bore² − rod²) each way. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure; size with a safety margin.

The through-rod lets you mount a pick-and-place gripper on one end and a counterbalance or secondary tool on the rear, keeping the stroke balanced and synchronized.
With the rod supported in both end caps, the SCD32X30 offers better resistance to rotation than a single-rod cylinder, useful for keeping small pusher plates aligned without adding an external guide.
Attach a sensor flag or cam to the rear rod extension to detect end-of-stroke position when the front of the cylinder is obstructed or inaccessible.
Step up to the SCD40 bore if your application needs more than 345 N of force at 0.5 MPa; the 40 mm bore provides 528 N each way. This double-rod design is the right choice when you need equal output in both directions, but if your load only requires a single working end, the lighter single-rod SC32 might be a simpler fit. For a drop-in replacement, match the 32 mm bore, 30 mm stroke, PT port thread, basic mounting, and absence of a magnet.
Double-rod checklist
Push and pull force are identical because the rod passes through both ends. At 0.5 MPa you get 345 N, at 0.7 MPa it is 483 N, and at the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa the force reaches 621 N. The theoretical output at 1.0 MPa is 70 kgf.
Choose the SCD32 when you need to mount tooling or a sensor on both ends of the piston rod, or when you require perfectly equal force and speed in both directions. The double-rod design also provides better bearing support and inherent anti-rotation compared to a single-rod cylinder of the same bore.
