The AirTAC Airtac SCD Standard Cylinder SCD32X350S is a genuine double-acting DOUBLE-ROD air cylinder: the Ø12mm piston rod extends from BOTH end caps, giving equal effective area — and therefore equal force — in push and pull. Ø32mm bore, 350mm stroke, PT1/8 ports and adjustable end cushioning.
The SCD32X350S is a tie-rod, double-acting pneumatic cylinder with a 12 mm rod extending from both ends, providing identical push and pull force in each direction. At a common 0.5 MPa supply, it produces a balanced 345 N of thrust both ways, making it ideal for symmetrical transfer mechanisms or fixtures where a rear rod connection is needed for a sensor flag or secondary tooling. The 350 mm stroke is well within the 1000 mm maximum for this 32 mm bore.
This model includes a built-in magnet (-S suffix), allowing easy attachment of CMSG, DMSG, or EMSG reed and solid-state sensors directly to the tie-rod barrel for non-contact position sensing. The adjustable air cushion at each end (21 mm length) decelerates the piston smoothly, and the PT1/8 ports keep the pneumatic connections compact. The retracted body length is 187 mm, plus the double rod extensions on both sides.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SCD (double-rod) datasheet. Because the rod runs through both caps, the effective area is (bore² − rod²) in both directions. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT (standard) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 346 N | 346 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 484 N | 484 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 70 kgf | |
Push and pull are EQUAL on a double-rod cylinder — both chambers lose the rod area, so effective area = (bore² − rod²) each way. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure; size with a safety margin.

The equal force and speed in both directions, combined with a rear rod for a counterbalance or sensor flag, makes the SCD32 ideal for small-part shuttles and symmetrical pick-and-place slides.
With a rod on each end, the piston is better supported against rotation. Use the 345 N force for pressing labels, holding parts in a fixture, or operating a small guillotine where rod twist is unacceptable.
The -S magnet option allows a CMSG sensor to be mounted on the rear rod side of the barrel, detecting the piston's position without interfering with the main tooling on the front rod.
Choose the SCD32 bore when your application requires a compact, equal-force actuator with a force around 345 N at 0.5 MPa. If you need more thrust, stepping up to the SCD40 provides 528 N at the same pressure. This double-rod design is the right choice over a single-rod SC cylinder when you need to attach tooling, a stopper, or a position-sensing target to the rear rod, or when you require better rod guidance and resistance to rotation than a single-rod cylinder offers. For genuine side-loads, however, a guided cylinder is still required.
For a direct replacement, match the 32 mm bore, 350 mm stroke, PT port thread, and the built-in magnet feature. The 350 mm stroke length means the unsupported rod section is significant; ensure the load is guided externally or use a cylinder with integrated guides if side forces are present to prevent rod bending.
Double-rod checklist
Because it is a double-rod cylinder, the effective piston area is identical on both sides. The force is 345 N at 0.5 MPa, 483 N at 0.7 MPa, and 621 N at the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa. The theoretical force at 1.0 MPa is 70 kgf.
Choose the SCD when you need a rear rod connection for mounting a sensor flag, a mechanical stop, or secondary tooling, or when you require the improved guidance and anti-rotation properties of a through-rod design. The push and pull forces are also perfectly equal, unlike a single-rod cylinder where the pull force is lower due to the rod area on only one side.
