AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC BSED series is a double-rod ISO 15552 cylinder with a spring-applied rod lock, providing equal push/pull force, anti-rotation, and fail-safe holding across 32-125mm bores.
inventory_2309 models availableThe AirTAC BSED series combines a double-rod ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder with an integrated spring-applied, air-released rod lock. A rod exits both ends, delivering equal force in both push and pull directions while preventing rotation. If air pressure is lost, exhausted, or an E-stop trips, the collet clamps the rod and holds it in both directions at its stopped position.
The range spans 7 bores from 32 to 125 mm. At 0.5 MPa, the bidirectional force spans from the mid-hundreds of Newtons at bore 32 to several thousand Newtons at bore 125. The cylinder operates at a lock-limited pressure range, and a separate G1/8 release port unlocks the collet when piston pressures are balanced.
This mechanism is a static holding brake, not a dynamic brake. It must engage only after the rod has stopped, and you must allow time for full release before moving. Choose the BSED for fail-safe drift protection on an ISO 15552 axis where equal force both ways is required.

Prevents gravity-induced drift on vertical actuators. If air pressure drops, the spring-applied collet clamps the rod, holding the load safely in place.
Uses the double-rod design for equal stopping force and anti-rotation. The rod lock holds the stop blade firmly in position during E-stop events.
Provides precise bidirectional positioning for loaders. The fail-safe lock ensures the axis does not drift into the work area when air is exhausted.
Select the bore size based on your load and the bidirectional holding force chart: the 32-50 mm bores handle mid-hundreds of Newtons, while the 80-125 mm bores provide several thousand Newtons of holding force. Because the rod lock is spring-applied, ensure your system allows time for full release before commanding motion.
Choose BSED when you need anti-rotation, equal push/pull force, and fail-safe holding on an ISO 15552 interface. If you only need single-rod holding, step out to the AirTAC BSE family. If you need a plain double-rod axis without a lock, use the AirTAC SED. Always confirm these 5 points before ordering: bore size, stroke, port/thread size, mounting style, and magnet option.
Quick checklist
The BSED series spans 7 bores from 32 to 125 mm. At 0.5 MPa, the bidirectional force spans from the mid-hundreds of Newtons at bore 32 to several thousand Newtons at bore 125. The push and pull forces are equal because it is a double-rod cylinder.
It uses a spring-applied, air-released collet. If air is lost or an E-stop trips, the collet clamps the rod, holding it in both directions. A separate G1/8 release port unlocks the collet when piston pressures are balanced. It is a static hold, not a dynamic brake, so engage it only after the rod stops.
BSED is a double-rod cylinder with a fail-safe rod lock. BSE is a single-rod version with the same rod lock. SED is a plain double-rod ISO 15552 cylinder without any locking mechanism. Choose BSED for equal force both ways plus anti-rotation and holding power.
Yes, the BSED uses the ISO 15552 mounting interface (SE/SED body). The cylinder runs at a lock-limited pressure range. AirTAC makes no brand-part-number equivalence claims, but the mounting dimensions align with the ISO 15552 standard.
