The AirTAC MSAL series is a single-acting spring-return aluminum mini round cylinder. Air pressure extends the rod and an internal spring returns it to the normally-retracted position. It spans 4 bores: 20, 25, 32 and 40 mm. It is not an ISO cylinder.
The series delivers a net extend force class spanning roughly 157 N at bore 20 up to 628 N at bore 40 before spring loss. Ports are G1/8 for bores 20/25/32 and G1/4 for bore 40. Thread options include PT, G and NPT. It is designed for short-stroke applications.
The MSAL is discontinued and replaced by the MSBL. The original MSAL uses threaded covers while the MSBL upgrade uses a riveted body. Sensors for the MSBL move to current CMSG, DMSG or EMSG models. Ratings remain the same. Keep legacy MSAL numbers for reference and migrate to the MSBL by matching bore, stroke and magnet options.

Product Ejection
Uses the spring-return push action to eject light parts from packaging lines, relying on the 20 or 25 mm bore for compact spacing.
Part Clamping
Clamps workpieces during machining. The normally-retracted spring ensures the clamp opens safely if air pressure drops.
Flow Gating
Diverts or stops items on a conveyor. The 32 or 40 mm bore provides higher force (up to 628 N) to push heavier cardboard or metal blanks.

Choose within the series by matching the bore to your load: 20 mm for light ejecting (approx. 157 N) up to 40 mm for heavier gating (approx. 628 N). Because it is single-acting push, select it only when a spring can handle the return. Confirm these 5 points: bore size, stroke length, port thread (PT/G/NPT), mounting style, and magnet option (-S).
Step out of this series to the MAL (double-acting) family when you need active air pressure to retract the rod or require a longer stroke. For single-acting pull applications, select the MTAL series. For current production, specify the MSBL replacement to ensure sensor compatibility.
