The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X125S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 125mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 8600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID125X125-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a massive static holding force of 8600 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 125 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions at 5734 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a counterweight, position flag, or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side guidance. Remember that this holding force is distinct from the cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp against the static load, not the push or pull force.
This enclasp mechanism is bidirectional, locking whether the rod was extending or retracting. The clamp utilizes a third G1/8 port for the 0.15-0.7 MPa unlock pressure. It is vital to understand that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the clamp is what holds the load. Furthermore, the lock engages only after the cylinder has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving rod. The integrated -S magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for position feedback.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 6136 N | 5734 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 8590 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Holds heavy vertical payloads at any intermediate height without relying on continuous air pressure, preventing sudden drops during power loss.
Freezes a heavy workpiece securely in place during drilling or milling operations, absorbing vibration via the 8600 N clamp force.
Uses the double-rod design to mount a primary work tool on one end and a guiding flag or secondary actuator on the opposite end.
Select this 125 mm bore model when an application demands immense holding capacity that a smaller bore cannot achieve. If 8600 N is excessive, stepping down to a 100 mm bore provides 5500 N holding force and 3681 N pull thrust at 0.5 MPa. Choose this BSAID clamp-lock over a standard SAID when the load must be frozen mid-stroke without maintaining live air pressure, and over a SAIL when locking is required anywhere along the stroke rather than only at the end. For safety-critical loads, an additional independent safety measure is required, as the lock cannot stop dynamic motion. To unlock safely, air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced, otherwise the rod can jump abruptly.
This double-rod variant uses PT ports and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mountings (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR). The 32 mm rod and M27x2 thread provide excellent rigidity against side loads. For strokes of 300 mm or longer, an external guide is recommended to prevent rod deflection.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It locks at any position along the stroke and holds bidirectionally, but only after the rod has come to a complete stop.
The clamp is released by applying 0.15-0.7 MPa air to the G1/8 enclasp port, but only after balancing pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping. The BSAID is a double-rod version offering equal thrust both ways and allowing dual-side mounting, unlike the single-rod BSAI.
