The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X350S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 350mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 8600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID125X350-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a robust static holding force of 8600 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 350 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod unit, its thrust is identical in both directions, delivering 5734 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. Remember that this holding force is entirely separate from the cylinder's thrust; you must size the 8600 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic thrust.
The dual-rod architecture allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp mechanism uses a third G1/8 enclasp port alongside the 1/2 inch cylinder ports, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the clamp itself is what holds the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 6136 N | 5734 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 8590 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures heavy vertical payloads at any intermediate height, preventing gravity-driven drops during air pressure loss.
Locks a dual-sided workpiece rigidly in place during drilling or milling, using the opposite rod end for anti-rotation guidance.
Provides an emergency hold anywhere along the 350 mm travel if pneumatic power is interrupted, engaging only after motion stops.
Choose this 125 mm bore model when a smaller bore, such as the 100 mm version offering 3681 N thrust and 5500 N holding force, cannot safely support your static load. If your application only requires holding at the stroke end, a plain SAI or SAIL cylinder would suffice; choose this BSAID clamp-lock when you must secure the load at any intermediate point. Because the stroke is 350 mm, the M27x2 rod provides excellent rigidity, but an external guide is still recommended to prevent side-loading damage over this travel distance.
For replacements, match the double-rod configuration, 125 mm bore, 350 mm stroke, and PT threaded ports. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR options, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets. The -S magnet works with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors. Always ensure the cylinder has stopped and pressures are balanced before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly; add independent safety measures for human-life-critical holds.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It locks the rod at any position bidirectionally, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod.
The clamp is released via a third G1/8 enclasp port at 0.15-0.7 MPa. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before unlocking, otherwise the rod can jump. An independent safety measure is required for human safety.
